333.0. "MHS Football Winning!" by YNGSTR::BUSCEMI (Hi Lorna...how ya doin') Wed Oct 30 1991 11:10

It's my understanding that the Maynard football team is having a
pretty good year? What's their record and when's the next home
    	game?

You are correct the MHS football team is have a great year. Their
record is 6 wins 1 loss. Last week they beat an undefeated Uxbridge
team 7 to 3. If they keep winning they might go to the central Mass.
    superbowl.

They play Concord/Carlisle this Friday night in Concord.

333.2Super Bowl possibilities... BUILD::MORGANWed Oct 30 1991 12:5214
Steve,

Their record is 6-1 and their next home game is November 8th against Ayer.
They play Concord-Carlisle this Friday night in Concord.

They are probably one of maybe two or three teams that have been dominating
since the year you graduated in '71.

Very physical team.

I believe they've only given up 37 points in 7 games, with 28 of those points
being scored in their only loss to Hudson.

I think it's pretty amazing that they're doing so well with the
few kids they have in the school. Sounds a little like the team
    	from '71!

333.4HMMM 1971 1991 another generation?ULTRA::DONAHUEOH! Do you still work here?Thu Oct 31 1991 12:115

Sounds to me like they have another generation of Watts, Mullins,
Sebastians, etc. 71 WAS a GREAT TEAM!! of course, there were folks from
the class of 72 filling in the gaps, too!

MHS is 7-1 after defeating Concord-Carlisle 31-10.

Three games remain: @home against Ayer, away against Narragansett
and away vs. Nashoba on Thanksgiving morning.

I don't know where they stand as far as Super Bowl possibilities
go, but needless to say, they need to win the remainder of their
games.

The MHS football team ranks 4th in the central Mass. division 2
standings. They play in the MID-WAC C division and are in forst place
but they are ranked in division 2.

333.8What is different this year?ULTRA::DONAHUEOH! Do you still work here?Wed Nov 06 1991 12:426
What is it that is making this year's team so much better than previous
years' teams? Was there a change in coaching staff? I don't believe the
freshman class would make that much difference.

    Just curious

>What is it that is making this year's team so much better than previous

No change in coaching staff per se. There were very few seniors who
graduated from last year's team, so the core of this year's team has
been playing together for a couple of years. They worked hard over the
summer and haven't had any major injuries which always helps.

>I don't believe the freshman class would make that much difference.

There were only one or two freshman that even went out for the team
this year. Not a good sign at all considering there are 15 seniors
on a team totalling 28 players.

The whole team has worked hard and their record shows the
effort they have put into it.

The Seniors are a wonderful bunch of boys who have been together for
years and work well together as a team.

    I wish them well tonight.

Just got directions from the Bruce Koskinen at the
high school on how to get to Narraganesett High.

Take RTE 2 west past Gardner, take the Baldwinville Road exit
(not to be confused with the Baldwinville exit), take a right
off the ramp. The school will be 1 1/2 mile down the road.

    See ya there at 7!!!!

Congratulations go out to all the Maynard Tigers. They are the
new 1991 League champions. They played an excellent game against
Narragansett on Friday night. I believe that this is the first
time Maynard has won the league championship alone since the 30's.

P.S. Now if they could just give the Patriot's some pointers.
