272.0. "Candlepin Bowling" by NRADM::GALVIN (o..........|||| Candlepins) Wed Feb 27 1991 12:25

    As some of you are already aware, I am an avid candlepin bowler. Aside
    from my DEC job, I "moonlight" one night a week at Crowell Bowl in
    Stow. This enables me to bowl for free anytime. Det Klein (former MHS
    Athletic star) owns the place now.

    Although candlepin bowling has seen a decrease in business over the
    years, it is still a fun family thing to do. Today with the rubber
    bumpers they can put in the "gutters", children of all ages can knock
    pins down.

    I remember Tutto's then Kellys of the 50's 60's and 70's.  Particularly
    when Bill Tobin was involved, there would always be a great grudge
    (money) match every Friday night. The good ole days are gone for sure.

    Speaking of Kellys - Bob Kelly, Chris Kelly (his wife) and Det have
    each appeared on the Saturday Channel 5 show this year.

    This coming Saturday's show will feature another Crowell Alum (now from
    Nashua). Joe Ashline will take on his doubles partner Gary Carrington.
    For those of you who watch the show, WATCH IT! For those of you who
    don't watch the show, WATCH IT! It will be one of the top 3 shows in the
    32 year history. BTW, if you look closely, I will be the one with the
    white shirt and read tie.

272.2Register??ROYALT::JOYGWed Feb 27 1991 16:356
    Is there a sign-up or just show-up day of event. I'm interested in
    Father-daughter on the 9th at 4PM.

    Hope this doesn't goof-up my REAL bowling (10 pin with the Big Balls).

272.3Registration allowed the day of the eventNRADM::GALVINo..........|||| CandlepinsWed Feb 27 1991 16:437
    George,

    For you, I could hand carry the sign up sheet up the street. But you
    can sign up when you get there if you want. Pre-sign up only helps
    them to have an idea of how many may participate.
