240.0. "Children's Day Care in Maynard" by JLGVS::GUNNERSON () Wed Aug 15 1990 12:01

Usuall disclaimer after trying different DIR/TITLES, KEYWORDS, etc.....
I tried looking for this information and couldn't find it. If I missed it please
point me (moderators move this request to) the proper note.

Our child has had day care in Maynard since she was an infant, for the last
couple of years at Paddington Station on Parker Street. Since we are Parker
Street residents this has been very convenient. However Paddington Station is
closing with three weeks notice and we are left in a bad state of affairs.

We would prefer to keep her as close to home as possible for logistical reasons
as well as bad weather times (blizzard driving with her kept to a minimum). We
just found that The Community School in downtown Maynard will have an opening
and will be able to accept her.

Can anyone offer a recommendation for The Community School, or other Maynard
day care provider (while we don't expect a full-time school situation we aren't
seeking a "babysitter", she's been exposed to learning experiences at Paddington
and we'd want that to continue - with plenty of playtime). If people feel that
such a discussion will violate policies please feel free to contact me at DTN
292-2606 or at JLGVS::GUNNERSON

Thank you,

John

I can tell you about ABC Day Care on Nason St. I have two daughters, ages 4.5
and 3 who go there. They go there twice a week. It's not very big, and they take
children starting at 2 years 9 months. They have nursery school in the morning,
and day care until 5:30. About half of the kids go just for the morning session.

My children look forward to going there. They are always bringing innovative
projects home from school. They have naptime, two snacks (day care provides) and
lunch (parents provide). They also play a lot.

I have a third daughter age 1 who will also be going there when she hits 2 years
9 months or thereabouts. I'm happy with the low key approach of this school.

I second the recommendation for ABC. From the time our #2 son, Kyle,
went there four years ago to this past fall, when we enrolled #3 son,
Alex, the quality has remained consistantly high, which is a key
consideration. We have been very pleased with ABC.

Their Holiday Concert this year was great, and you could see that the
    kids really enjoy themselves.

Thanks for those replies, although we had to make a decision long before Dec-
ember :-) And as you can tell I haven't ventured in this note for a while my-
self.

In any case we did send Jamie to The Community School which worked out well. I
visited ABC and liked what I saw. The points that won us to The Community School
were that teachers had been there for years, their holiday schedule pretty much
matched Digital's, they didn't automatically close for snow days along with
Maynard public schools, they provided a light breakfast and hot lunch - included
in the cost of the program. The draw backs are they have an older, but huge,
facility, concrete floors, probably more kids than other places, and the play
yard could be nicer.
