I've noticed that there are several streets near the Lower Thompson street parking lot the same name as Union Civil War Generals. For example Sherman, Burnside. Being a little rusty on the Union side I haven't look up all the other generals to see if they have streets. (Tho I'm a native New Englander, the Southern General were much more interesting.) Since the Mill was active during the Civil War I was curious. Does anyone know anything about when/how these streets were named? What other Union general streets are there? Larry

Larry, having fouled up this conference on several occasions, I have attempted to answer your question in note 215.24 (Maynard History). Frank | |||||

Any idea where 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th street came from? They probably don't have as romantic origin as some of the others (unless they are the first 5 Maynard streets !). And what about Old Mill - and did it ever join the Old Mill off of 117 at the cemetary? Phil |
