224.1 | Tie-in with Memorial Park? | DINER::SHUBIN | Question everything | Fri May 11 1990 10:13 | 8 |
|
Is there any money left in the fund that was used to rebuild Memorial
Park? It would certainly be appropriate to use any extra money from
that work for fixing up the squares named for these veterans. (Of
course, the idea of having extra money is probably a little
farfetched!)

224.2 | Money is tight | SENIOR::IGNACHUCK | | Fri May 11 1990 22:00 | 8 |
| Hal, as far as I know, the Veterans Memorial Committee still hasn't
raised enough money to cover the costs of the beautiful Memorial
built during the past two years.
If they did have money, your idea would be perfect. Anyone able
to make a donation could include this suggestion.

224.3 | Thanks to Maynard Mobil | SENIOR::IGNACHUCK | | Sun Jun 17 1990 21:10 | 13 |
| I would like to thank the owner of the Mobil Station at Great
Road and Main Street for taking care of Myles Tierney Square.
I never knew Myles Tierney and I don't know the owner of the
Mobil Station, but I will buy my gas there from now on in
thanks to the owner, and will thank him next time I stop by.
If you feel the same, mention this when you stop there.
Efforts to beautify Maynard should be recognized.

| I think Steve Jones is the owner, Frank. He at least runs the place.
Besides upkeeping the Tierney Square, he does a great job as a
mechanic. I don't know him other than talking when bringing our car
there, but he's the fairest mechanic in town that I know of.

| He really was nice to me one day when I had car trouble. Even took me
home.

224.6 | Mobil's new fence | CURIE::DERAMO | | Wed Jun 20 1990 10:47 | 12 |
| I'm disappointed that the Mobil station's new stockade fence has the
picket side (nicer side) toward the station, and the rail side to the
neighbors.
I had always thought it was traditional -- at least among homeowners --
for the owner of a fence to put the good fence side toward the neighbors.
I do like the fence, however, and the abutters are probably happy with it
too.
the fence, you new fence

224.7 | Mobil's fence? | OLDJON::WATSON | Some like it not | Thu Jun 21 1990 07:53 | 10 |
| Are you sure it's not the neighbor's fence? Because of its placement, I
just assumed it was.
Also, I always thought the direction it faced was more of a by-law of the
town (not just Maynard) that dictated which side -- the nicer one -- faced
outward from the property it bounded.
Anyone know for certain?

Maynard has no restrictions on what side faces 'out'.

224.9 | I adopted a square | 19119::IGNACHUCK | Native Maynardian | Tue Sep 24 1991 00:27 | 13 |
| This past Sunday I officially laid claim to George Daley Square
at the corner of Summer/Brooks/and Maple Streets by mowing it
and cleaning up the litter. This is a beautiful little green
space at a busy intersection, and was named for one of our
citizens killed in action in World War 1. I never knew the
man or his family, but I decided to adopt this square as an
effort to show my pride in my Town and its' people. I hope
that the remainder of the squares noted in 224.0 will be
also "adopted" by others in Maynard.
Every little bit counts.
Best regards,
Frank

I was told I could not do that due to the liability to the
town since I was not a town employee, I wanted to adopt the park
across the street from Fowler Junior High.

224.11 | Adopting | 19119::IGNACHUCK | Native Maynardian | Fri Sep 27 1991 21:55 | 15 |
| I have exchanged notes with Bob Cansler regarding .10 and I think
the difference is what I am suggesting and what he tried to do
relates to routine maintenance (as in mowing and trash pick-up)
versus building and repairing structures (as in playgrounds).
I can understand the Town's refusal for a private party to have
permission to construct or alter playground equipment on Town
owned land. If an accident occurs on a Town owned playground,
the Town is liable regardless of who built it.
As for grabbing a lawn mower or a trash bag and cleaning up an
area, I consider it an example of Town pride.

| Regarding .12- I'm sorry Bob. I must have hit a nerve.
May I suggest that we take this off-line?
I'll send you a note.
