143.0. "Looking for Upholsterer" by CTCSYS::HARRIS () Mon Mar 27 1989 10:25

Does anyone know of a good place to get a chair re-upholstered in
    the greater Maynard area?

    Thanks.

    Another idea...

Instead of re-upholstery, we had slipcovers made at Calico Corners on
Rte 2A in Acton. They have sales on labor a few times per year, and
they're announced on the cover of the Action Unlimited. For $500 or
$700 or so we had a couch and chair covered. Pretty cheap compared with
    upholstery. Good work, too.

I can't speak for a complete re-upholstery of a chair but we just had
some seat cushions for the kitchen done at Auto Upholsteryon Waltham
Street in Maynard (897-7069). The quality of the work was excellent
and the cost was only 1/2 of anywhere else.

Fabric place did ours. Ok, they're not cheap, but they did a fantastic
job. I sew and am very particular, and they matched the material
    perfectly at the seams.

There's Oscar's at the corner of 62 and 117 in Stow, the place is
a little house. Call first for hours, etc. (he has the most
interesting answering machine tape). I think he is an old-time
person of the upholstery art. I found out about him after I needed
the work, but he recommended a friend who did slip-covers and he
    did a wonderful job.

You might try "Wood and Fabric" in Marlboro !! Very reasonable,
you purchase the fabric and she will do the work. This way the
"taste" of fabric design is in YOUR hands.

B&M Upholstery - Jerry Babineau is my first choice for an excellent
and reasonable upholsterer. He works out of Fitchburg/Leominster
but has a Maynard phone number. He knows how expensive most of
the local Acton/CONCORD upholsters are and decided that a Maynard
number would be advantageous to him and to us. He is right!

Just got an estimate from Auto Upholstery for 10 chair cushions
for our porch furniture. He wanted $850 for the job. Unbelievable!
I can buy a whole new set of porch furniture for that price. Guess
    he didn't want the job.
143.8$35 per summer cushionSELECT::REINSCHMIDTDLB12-2/D8, DTN 291-8114Thu Jul 06 1989 15:4610
    Re .7

The estimate I received last winter for porch furniture chair cushions
from Calico Corner in Acton came in at around $35/cushion, if I recall
correctly. That's a lot less than your $85/cushion. Of course, my
cushions are rectangles, which are relatively simple to cover. Still,
I can't imagine that summer furniture cushions could be any more
involved. I concur with your conclusion that the estimate is high.
