I'd written a note about The Community Supper, but it was lost in the
disk crash. I wanted to update the note to say that we're moving from
the South Acton Congregational Church to the Acton Congregational
Church in Acton center.
Community Supper is a non-denominational group which serves a hot meal
and distributes clothing and groceries to anyone who comes in for them.
We're only moving because we've outgrown our space. We're not sure why,
but there seem to be more people in need in the area, and we need to
serve them.
If anyone would like to bring donations of [clean and usable] clothing
or groceries, come to the church (the move will happen on 3 Aug 88)
between 3:00 and 5:00pm. Donations of money can be sent to 10
Vanderbelt Rd, Acton, MA 01720.
The Agape Center is still meeting in Maynard on Monday nights. They
serve meals, but I don't think that they distribute any items. They
have been open since Feb 88 and are growing. I believe that they meet
in the church at the intersection of Main and Nason Streets. Flyers are
in the windows of many stores downtown.

| 105.1 | A third area supper as of 28 September | DINER::SHUBIN | Question everything | Fri Sep 15 1989 17:02 | 20 |
Community Supper and Agap Center are both doing well and a third area
supper will be added in Concord at the First Parish Church. The
organization is called Open Table and they'll be serving on Thursday
evenings. For more information on attending, volunteering or
contributing, call 369-2275. They begin on 28 Sep, at which time we'll
have local suppers on Monday (Maynard), Wednesday (Acton) and Thursday
(Concord).
And while I'm here -- we at Community Supper could use some more
volunteers, too. There is a surprising number of people who need our
services (hence the third supper) and we always have room for more
volunteers, especially clean-up and set-up, but other areas as well.
Contact me.
Finally, if you belong to a group (church, synagogue, civic, etc) and
would like to hear more about The Community Supper, contact me and
we'll arrange a speaking engagement.

| 105.2 | Update on local groups | DINER::SHUBIN | Question everything | Mon Nov 27 1989 11:18 | 20 |
Someone wrote a note about making donations, so I thought I'd give an
update.
The three soup kitchen/food pantry groups in the area are operating at
or beyond capacity. Agape Center (Mondays in Maynard), The Community
Supper (Wednesdays in Acton) and The Open Table (Thursdays in Concord)
are all open and serving more and more people each week. Community
Supper served at least 145 people (plus seconds to go home) last week
and Agape Center served about 180 meals (including take away). I don't
have numbers for Open Table, but they're similar.
The need in this otherwise affluent area is surprising and growing. If
you would like to make donations or volunteer, contact one of the
groups:
Community Supper: Contact me for info, Hal Diner::Shubin
Open Table: Leave a message at 369-2275
Agape Center: Lorraine Gosselin at 263-0243 (volunteers)
Sandy Phelan at 635-0853 (donations)
