58.2 | There are a few near Maynard.... | SPIDER::PEARCE | Linda Pearce | Fri May 08 1987 16:24 | 23 |
| The following are hotels and motels that I know of in the area.
I don't know how good they are, maybe others can give input on
that.
The Concordian on Rte 2 (off of Hosmer St (?) in
Acton. Right near the Concord Auto Auction.
The Maynard Motel, Maynard, on Rte 62 Powdermill Road (I have my doubts about
how good this one is.)
The Boxborough Sheraton, Boxborough, on Rte 111 right near 495.
The Holiday Inn, Marlborough, on Lakeside Ave right near 495.
Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel, Marlborough, on Boston Post Rd (Rte 20)
Howard Johnson's Hotel, Concord, on Elm St (near rt 2)
That's about it in this area.
I have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Marlborough. It's very nice.

the Holiday Inn in Marlboro is very nice.

| Re .2:
The Maynard Motel, which I once had the distinction of staying in,
oddly, is _not_ in Maynard (unless you count rain gutters); the
motel rooms and rest of the structure are actually over the town
line and are in Acton. The Maynard Motel thus joins Maynard Supply,
a hardware/lighting company on Route 62 of being outside of the
town they were named for.
Steve Kallis, Jr.
On the Maynard Motel as a place to stay: it isn't elegant, and I
don't put it in the same class as, say, The Concordian, or even
Howard Johnson's, but it's close to MSO and a shuttle bus...

58.5 | Inn in W Concord | ADVAX::CLOSE | | Tue May 12 1987 11:58 | 9 |
| Yesterday I noticed that the house on the left side of rt 62, just
outside W Concord across from the small video store, has been fixed
up and is now "A Bed and Breakfast Inn." It's right next to the
converted mill building along the Assabet River. It looks quite
nice, and would certainly be more pleasant than some bland motel.
Good location, too.
Does anyone know the name of this new old place?

58.6 | Why they pits? | MANTIS::PEARCE | Linda Pearce | Tue May 12 1987 12:54 | 9 |

Could you please elaborate? Why is it the pits?
I stayed there 3 years ago, because I was too
tired to drive any further. I didn't get a fancy
room by any means, but, it was clean and neat.

spent a week there.

58.8 | There are LOTS nicer places | FURILO::BLINN | We don't need no steenking badges! | Tue May 12 1987 20:04 | 10 |
| Re: .6 -- I, too, once stayed in the Holiday Inn. For a long
time, it was the *only* hotel anywhere close to DEC in Marlboro,
and they basically got sloppy. My group supports lots of customer
visits; we NEVER book people into the Holiday Inn. It's better
than no place at all, of course, but in the current marketplace
(where several new hotels have opened in the last few years),
there are LOTS better places. For the Marlboro area, it's the
pits.

58.9 | more ideas for places to stay... | RHODES::MOREAU | | Thu May 14 1987 17:44 | 9 |
| The Colonial Inn in Concord is a very decent place to stay ....
and it used to be less expensive than the Howard Johnsons (which
is okay as long as you don't eat there!)
The Bed and Breakfast place that just opened in West Concord is
I believe called the John Butterick Inn. Another place in Concord
is called City Cousins Bed and Breakfast..369-8416.
There is also the Regency in Westford.

just built it last year.

| I know somebody who stayed at the coach house, and reported that it was
far better than the Sheraton. (His complaint about the Sheraton was that
the staff seemed to have the attitude that the patrons were an inconvienence
that interfered with their job of keeping the rooms clean.)

58.17 | NEW B&B | VAXRT::HOLTORF | | Mon Aug 29 1988 12:33 | 4 |
| There is a new B&B in Stow on 117. About half way between
Stow Shopping Center and the lights at RTE 62. Don't know the name and
number but it is an old inn that has been a private home for years.
Does someone know the details?

58.20 | How embarrasing but ... | JANUS::MAZEAU | Suzanne, 830-3854 | Wed Sep 26 1990 12:17 | 13 |
|
Having grown up in Acton, living there for nearly 25 years, I don't know
any good B&Bs in the area. I am (hopefully) coming back on a business trip
during November and haven't a clue where to stay besides the biggies like
Sheraton, Regency etc. I would much rather something small and personal
than a sterile hotel room. I don't care if they do dinner as long as it
isn't more than 15 or 20 minutes from the Mill, tops.
I've read through this note and am going to check out the Colonial Inn but
I would like other ideas too.
Thanks,
Suzanne who lives in England now

58.21 | Three B&Bs that I know of... | LAVC::CAHILL | Jim Cahill | Wed Sep 26 1990 17:07 | 21 |
| Suzanne, I have some ideas for you.
Two B&B's that I know of in Stow are the Stowaway Inn and a place on West Acton
Road, just up from the corner of Rts. 62 and 117. The Stowaway Inn is on Rt.
117, just east of the center of town. It's recently changed ownership, and I
personally know and can recommend the owners (no relationship). They have just
a few rooms, and may already be booked up for November. A lot of their guests
are Digital people. Sorry, but I don't have their phone number. Anyone have
a recent Concord/Marlboro NET directory on their desk??
If they don't have space available, perhaps they can give you names of some
other places. Also, the Personnel office in Maynard can probably suggest a few
places.
There's also a B&B in Littleton that's probably within your time limits. It's
called the Lyttleton Inn, and is just off the Littleton Common. It's a nice,
scenic drive from Littleton through West Acton and over to the Mill. Their
phone number is (508) 486-4715. I think they provide airport pick-up too, but
you should ask just to be sure.

Hi Suzanne!
> -< How embarrasing but ... >-
You should be! ;-)
There is a B&B sign near Nine Acre Corners (just after Appleseeds)
heading East on 117. I think that the place is called "Wheeler"
something or other (can't find it listed in Marlboro-Concord
directory)...and this is close to the Lincoln Town Forest, so you
can walk through there if the weather is agreeable.
Hopefully, we'll get to see you during this trip?
Regards

The place is called Anderson-Wheeler Homestead B&B, 154 Fitchburg
Tnpke (Rte. 117), Concord, 508-369-3756.
Suzanne, hope that helps.

I have wondered what the Stowaway was like from inside so maybe I'll get to
see it. The leafers will have all gone home by then so there should be
rooms somewhere in the area.
See you in November Len

58.25 | Seeking hotel in Stow area | MIMS::LIBOVE | | Mon Aug 30 1993 19:51 | 16 |
| Since Stow and Maynard are so close together, I thought to post here...
the prior notes are all at least 3 years out of date, so I wanted to
open the topic up again.
I'll be spending a little under two weeks in the Stow area, @OGO,
and wanted to know what the best hotels in the vicinity are.
There is a Residence Inn in Westborough, but it is booked up for
the period of time that I'll be there.
Good bed and breakfasts would also be nice to know about.
Thanks!

58.26 | Stow Away Inn on Route 117 in Stow, MA | CTHQ::SNOW | | Mon Aug 30 1993 22:01 | 10 |
| There is a bed and breakfast right on route 117 in Stow, MA, called
Stow Away Inn. It's a quaint 100 year old inn. I've never been in it
but drive by it all the time. The phone is (508)897-1999 and it is
located at 271 Great Road in Stow.
They offer a full course breakfast (according to the add in my phone
book)

58.27 | | DRCULA::DISMUKE | WANTED: New Personal Name | Wed Sep 01 1993 16:17 | 7 |
| Usually for a full service hotel, "deccies" go to Marlboro, MA. There are
no hotels in Maynard or Stow. Another choice would be Boxboro which
has a Host Inn, I believe. Call Thomas Cook travel at 800-374-5858 and
they can suggest based on the towns you favor.
