33.1 | Watch Out for Your Watch | EVE::K_HAMILTON | KAREN | Thu Dec 11 1986 09:32 | 21 |
| DON'T (underline that don't) take it to Village Jewelers on Main St.
A friend of mine left her husband's there, and got a run-around when
she tried to pick it up. It took a few months to get it back, and
it was scratched when it finally did get back. Also, it wasn't fixed.
Masciarelli's on Nason St. has a good reputation.

I'm looking for a place to take my wife's Seiko for
adjustment (it doesn't keep time very well).
Any suggestions in downtown Maynard (is there more
than one jeweler downtown?)
Thanks,
Bruce

My husband is also having a hard time dealing with Village Jewelers.
He took his watch in to have 3 things fixed (a broken crystal, a
broken watchband, and a problem losing time). It took weeks to get
an estimate and more weeks to get it "fixed".
When he went to pick it up he found that the crystal was still cracked
and the watchband still broken. He took it back and they fixed
the crystal and band. Then he found it was still losing time!
Once again they are working on it (it's been several months now!).
We'll never go back to them!

33.3 | Try Masciarelli's | SPIDER::PEARCE | Linda Pearce | Thu Dec 11 1986 13:01 | 8 |
| Try Masciarelli's. I've never taken a watch there,
only jewelry. But, a friend of mine uses them to
repair her watches and thinks highly of them.

P.S. Aside to .1: Karen, do you know about "REP/NOEXT"?

33.6 | Down the NOTES procedural rathole... | REGENT::EPSTEIN | Bruce Epstein, Hardcopy Firmware | Tue Dec 16 1986 08:56 | 12 |
| Karen,
If you just say "REPLY", which seems to be what you're doing,
you get the full text of the previous reply entered into your
reply. This (unintentionally) adds to "NOTES clutter". So,
to avoid this most horrible (:-) of conditions, say
"REPLY/NOEXTRACT" (or "REP/NOEX") when you want to enter a
reply into a conference.
Sorry for the confusion,
Bruce

| Or, as you're composing your new note, just edit out the
text of the old note.
VAX Notes includes by default the text of the old note just
in case you want to use quotes from it, or refer to it as
you're writing your reply.

Another reason for supporting Masciarelli's. The owners daughter
is a DECie. She works in our department as a software engineer.
And, for the old timers, he is Rose's husband (anyone ever take
training classes when they were still taught at the Mill and
accomodations were across the street?).

33.10 | Such a thing as "too good"? | REGENT::EPSTEIN | Bruce Epstein | Fri Dec 19 1986 08:49 | 6 |
| OK, I went there, Seiko in hand, and was told that they're
not accepting *any* repairs until well after the holidays.
I hope it is worth the wait!

33.11 | ask lots of questions | JON::TAG | | Tue Dec 30 1986 09:04 | 18 |

I have had similar, (probably worse) experiences with the
Village Jewelers. They are outright thieves !
In my opinion Massarellis <--- sp. ?
is a very reasonable store, I have bought many items there.
Just a warning, ask about their insurance for items in transit
(I think the repairs are done in boston)
A relative of mine was recently involved in a legal hassle over
an irreplaceable diamond ring which was lost/stolen in transit.
The above mentioned jewelry store told her, "It was not insured,
were sorry."
The suit was setteled, and her ring replaced, with a piece of junk
in her opinion.

33.12 | Discounts for DEC | WELKIN::STRONACH | | Mon Dec 14 1987 13:47 | 6 |
| At one time I understood that Masciarelli Jewlery gave discounts to
DEC employees when buying there -- can anyone verify this and do they
still??
