92.0. "Unix: subsystem error (139) unknown" by PERFOM::HENNING () Thu Mar 20 1997 11:36

    What am I doing wrong?

    Digital UNIX V4.0B, freshly installed, AlphaServer 4100 5/400 4-cpu

    ftp> bin
    200 TYPE set to IMAGE.
    ftp> get IPROBE022_UNIX40.TAR_Z;1 iprobe022_unix40.tar.Z

You are installing the following optional subsets:

IPROBE kit for Digital Unix 4.0

    Is this correct? (y/n): y

Checking file system space required to install selected subsets:

    File system space checked OK.

    1 subset(s) will be installed.

    Loading 1 of 1 subset(s)....
    Checking for previous IPROBE kits...
    No previous IPROBE installation found

IPROBE kit for Digital Unix 4.0
       Copying from . (disk)
       Verifying

    1 of 1 subset(s) installed successfully.

Configuring "IPROBE kit for Digital Unix 4.0" (IPRBASE220)
Copying Digital Unix V4.0 specific files to target directories...
    Done
Configuring and loading the IPROBE driver...
sh: 4365 Memory fault - core dumped
    method failed to perform postconfiguration
    subsystem error (139) unknown

IPROBE for Digital Unix 4.0 succesfully installed
    # exit
    prf04.zko.dec.com> iprobe
couldn't open the counter device: No such file or directory

answered my own question. The correct kit is 0221.

    ftp> bin
    200 TYPE set to IMAGE.
    ftp> get IPROBE0221_UNIX40.TAR_Z;1
    ...
    mv IPROBE0221_UNIX40.TAR_Z\;1 iprobe_0221_unix40.tar.Z
    ...
