283.1 | Trying to reproduce this. | PCBUOA::BRACKEN | | Tue May 27 1997 11:31 | 6 |
| Could you please explain the event log entry when this happens and
if it is only with NT 3.5.1 SP5. We can't get it to happen here.
Thanks,
Rich

283.2 | Need better description | PCBUOA::BRACKEN | | Thu May 29 1997 09:25 | 7 |
| The support team in Rome claims that the problem goes away when
installing the proper Eisa VGA card? I don't see the relationship?
Suddenly, we have no problem so please explain yours.
It seems that there are a lack of devices to properly fix this so we
must make sure there is a problem and we have a fix.

| Hi
1. there is no error logged in the NT event log.
2. When the problem appear, the only way to make the keyboard work is
to restart the server.
3. I have also heard something regarding a "supported vga card".
Can anybody explain?
4. the server is running nt 4.0 sp1.

283.4 | Keyboard on NT 4.0 as well | PCBUOA::BRACKEN | | Mon Jun 02 1997 08:52 | 28 |
| The problem reported to date was that on NT 3.5.1 SP5 once in a while(a
few times a week, I beleive) the keyboard would hang and the event log
contained entries as:
5/12/97 10:07:18 AM i8042prt Error None 26 N/A
NT1CB2
Exceeded the allowable number of retries (configurable via the
registry) on device \Device\KeyboardPort0.
If one pulled out the keyboard connector and reconnected it the
keyboard use recovers.
If you could try that when the error happens and also attempt to use
the remote console and switch back to local console to see if that
resolves the problem.
This is still under investigation to determine if the proper fix is in
the new keyboard controller. These devices are scarce.
Could you please explain the circumstances when this happens:
. Are you connected remotely?
. Has the local keyboard been working for a period of time?
. A certain key combination.
. How many keys are on your keyboard and do they all work?
You should disable the on-board PCI VGA and replace it with an ISA VGA
card. RSM being an Eisa card can not get to the PCI VGA refresh buffer.
Almost all ISA VGA cards should work with RSM remote console.
