Hi, Can any part of the ServerWORKS suite provide similar disk reporting funtionality that is available with the SMART disk options on the Venturis FX-2 range. The functionality required is the pro-active alerting of degrading disks connected to the RAID controller. This is apparently what Compaq's product can do. The Mylex GAM product can show bad blocks on a logical drive, soft errors on a physical drive, but can it be forced to take a drive offline and allow a hot-spare drive to take control when the drive has X number of bad block etc.? Thanks Gary Ogden

maybe sometime in the 'future', but NOT today. If/When it happens, it will be 'splashed' on our web site. akin40 chet | |||||

However be aware that the Mylex has certain tresholds built-in for things like soft-errors, hard errors, misc. errors and parity errors. When they get reached, the Mylex will automatically put the drive off-line and kick in the hot-spare. Noticed this live with a "faulty" Mylex board that was seeing a few hundred misc. errors to a disk, and therefor put the disk off-line and kicked-in the hot-spare. Now what these threshold values are I don't know. At least I'm sure you can not change them. Pjotrr |
