Hi, Can someone advise on the following: A customer wishes to implement only Novell's ManageWise Management tool to monitor and obtain statistics, events and alarms etc from both Digital and Compaq servers. The customer wants to standardise on only one Server/Network Management tool. Is it possible to obtain the information that is displayed via the ServerWORKS Manager Browser and have this accessed (run) from within Novell's Managewise without running ManageWORKS ? If so, how is it done? What agents or MIBs etc do I need? I read notes 247.1 and 247.7 in this conference. Does this mean no to my answer above. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Gary Ogden

Get from \\jules.ako.dec.com\public\mibs the MIB files in that directory. Enroll them in ManageWise. Then you should be able to set individual traps and look at MIB statistics. If ManageWise has the possibility to launch an external app based on the type Server.Digital (don't know exactly the OID, take a look in the MIBs to find it)then you could launch smb.exe with the command line "SMB -h <ipaddress>". That should do the trick. Also take a look at the HP Openview Integration document that you can find on the "The Works" pages. http://akin40.ako.dec.com/prioris/TheWORKS/Intro.htm Pjotrr | |||||

I would say the .1 answer looks correct. My answer would have been based on the capabilities of ManageWISE ability to browse the HR MIB and retrieve similar information that the ServerWORKS browser retrieves. My recommendation is to show the customer "all" the features of ServerWORKS Manager and win them over based on the fact that product is more robust than ManageWISE. Many folks say they don't need the extra features until they see how great they are, then they want the extra bells & whistles etc... jh |
