| As I have installed ManageWorks, ServerWorks and clearVISN s/w, should
I re-execute the Service Pack 2 to ensure the SNMP components are the
right versions etc.??
How can I track down whether the Event Despatcher is functioning
correctly ? Is it possible to deinstall/reinstall it alone ?

Does it matter that I'm running NT 4 Workstation ? Or should I upgrade
to NT 4 Server ?

couple of questions......
o did you load the SNMP Service ? It does not automatically load
with Windows NT, Nor manageworks/serverWORKS
o Have you been to the akin40.ako.dec.com web site to view the
known problems and workarounds in the Digital Serverworks hotlink?

274.4 | SNMP loaded.... | CHEFS::HARVEY | Baldly going into the unknown... | Thu May 15 1997 14:47 | 16 |
| Chet
I've set the SNMP in the Control Panel/Services to be Automatic Startup
and also Manual at one time (as advised somewhere in the docs I think).
Am I correct in thinking there is an SNMP agent for the NT system
itself and another instance in ManageWorks/ServerWorks and clearVISN ?
It's just that I tried a "net stop snmp" in the MSDOS CLI and noticed
that MiultiChassis Manager continued to do its stuff !
I haven'#t seen the web site I'll take a peek.
Thanks.
Rog (confused but learning a lot)

| I noticed great similarities with my problems within these note entries
and am wondering if they're solved by the SW* files patch ?
Is it worth me pulling the patch to try it ? My system doesn't have any
of the SW* files - it is NT4 Workstation and not a server.....
Just a thought.

274.6 | Some suggestions... | ALFSS2::OLSEN_G | Real Men Go Wireless! | Fri May 16 1997 11:23 | 27 |
| Rog,
I'm the one who entered two of the notes you referenced.
Here are my suggestions/questions.
1. The errors with the event dispatcher mean it isnt' running. It needs
to run or the other stuff won't work. I don't know what causes it not
to start - I've seen that before and remove/reinstalled and it cleared
up. Maybe Chet has some ideas?
2. I'd get the patches and apply them.
3. Do you get any snmp errors on boot? Other errors? Errors in the
event log? There should be an Informational event saying the SNMP
service started and of course it should be listed in the Services list
as Started.
4. NT server/workstation is irrelevant. I have Manageworks/Serverworks
installed and running on a Celebris GL 6200 that has NT 4.0 Workstation
and it is just fine. The thing I don't have is the ClearVisn junk. Try
removing ClearVisn and Manageworks/Serverworks and reinstall just
Manageworks/serverworks and see if Serverworks works ;-). Get it all
working properly then add ClearVisn and see what happens. Might be a
ClearVisn problem.

274.7 | Might be you have the ClearVISN SNMP Trap support running | SUTRA::16.192.160.136::Bats | Speeding, speeding, I'm always speeding | Tue May 20 1997 05:47 | 13 |

Remember that ClearVISn also has SNMP trap receive support when using the
router part. You can't do that if you want to use at the same time the
ServerWorks SNMP trap receiving modules.
I don't know exactly anymore which modules of ClearVISN these were,
but make sure basically that none of their modules is running when
you activate ServerWorks.
A similar situation exists if you have and NetView or HP OpenView and
ServerWorks on the same system.
