233.0. "Integration GAM/Unicenter TNG" by IB001::paleto.sqo.dec.com::vara () Mon Mar 24 1997 10:52

Im Alfonso Vara, from Spain . Now Im in BANKINTER (a big bank in Spain) doing a
pilot of CA-Unicenter TNG in order to manage all the NT Servers (about 300) that they are
installing in every office around Spain. Currently Im trying to integrate Global Array
Manager with CA-Unicenter TNG. Ive two questions:

	First question:

Is SNMP installed from the first moment or do I need to do some
configuration in order to send traps to TNG ?.
SNMP is configured in Windows NT in that machine in order to send traps to herself because
is the same machine that holds Unicenter TNG, but it seems to dont receive any trap from
GAM.
GAM seems to work poperly because I can see the raid from de GAM console.
Anybody knows what could be the problem ??

	Second question:

Is it possible to start the GAM console with the context of a node in order to see
only this node when we start this console from the icon of this node in the console of
Unicenter TNG ?

As I told you before Im involved in a pilot of Unicenter TNG in
Bankinter and they are very interested in this integration. We need to finish the pilot in
two weeks.

	Also Ive other questions:

Where is the beta of ManageWORKS/ServerWORKS 3.0 ??

Where is the SDK of ManageWORKS/ServerWORKS (code and documentation) ??

	Thanks in advance

	Best regards.

On the NT Server you'll need the NT SNMP agent already installed
before you install the GAM Agent. Check the
	HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
		System\
		Currentversion\
		Services\
		SNMP\
		Parameters\
		ExtensionAgents\

There should be a value like
		MLX_GAM:REG_SZ:SOFTWARE\Mylex\GAM\CurrentVersion\

Then in you UniCenter environment you should enroll the MIB
file and associate it with the system that has the Mylex installed.
(Or if it is an ServerWorks running system, associate it with
	 Server.DEC)
Then in their Trap configurator point to the system and you should
see several traps around the Mylex and its features like
LogicalDriveRebuild etc. Just tell it to sent these to your
	machine.

I don't know Unicenter TNG but if you are using server works make sure
that you also perform the NT SNMP Service Configuration for traps.
    Filling in all trap destinations.

As far as Server Works Manager 3.0 is concerned. The current build
needs to make another pass on translation on Internationalization
before we review it again and it is slated to start qualification
testing before we can even think of Beta.

Yo estube revisando el castellano despues del primero paso y encontre
algunas diferencias entre los terminos technicos y traduccion puro.

As far as SDK is concerned, there is none in Server Works.
I think you may be referring to the 3rd Party Integration?
If so, there is some documentation and examples on the share
\\jules\public \sw3pty that applies to Server Works 2.2.
However, this will be changed dramatically in Server Works 3.0.
Please, send me a mail and I'll get you the info on Server Works 3.0.

Saludos a todos los ex-Philips que siguen trbajando en bancaria.

233.3GAM problems via SNMPIB001::16.38.48.138::varaTue Apr 01 1997 06:1727
Thank you very much for your answers.

I've tested all you say in .1 and is ok but I continue having a
problem with gam events via SNMP: Unicenter TNG seems to don't receive any
traps.
I've also compiled the gam MIB in Unicenter and we (myself and a
person of CA) are trying to conect to this mib via Unicenter and doesn't
respond to any query to any variable in the MIB.

I've reviwed the INI file for the GAM events and I've a doubt in te
line:
	gamevent -s 7 -p 158 -h "host address"

	What's the meaning of -s and -p ?

Is -p the port number for traps ?

If is the port number I think that must be 162 that is the default
port for traps.

What is your opinion about this ?

	Thank you andbes regards.
