203.1 | Yes Traps can appear on other objects; but! | PCBUOA::BRACKEN | | Mon Feb 03 1997 17:22 | 11 |
| No, whatever the agent is capable of sending. The Server Works Agent
can be setup to trap on such items as:
1. ECC Memory error.
2. Fan Failure.
3. Voltage out of range.
4. Temperature out of range.
The capabilities of the H/W platform and the currently existing agent
must be known as well as the procedure for setting up the the object to
be monitored by the agent for a trap condition. The Server Works Alarm
tool performs this function in a user friendly manner. This application
should be integrated into HP Openview to allow for ease of trap setup.

203.2 | Let me rephrase the question. | VMSNET::J_MAJEWSKI | | Tue Feb 04 1997 11:50 | 19 |
| My customer wants to forward trap information to his
HP OpenView manager from ServerWORKS.
He initially asked me how to do this. I found the
information in the on-line help for the SNMP Event/
Logger entitled:
"Send SNMP Traps to Top-Level Management Station"
This article only mentions sending SNMP linkDown or
linkUp traps, no others.
If it can send other trap information, which others
and what are the steps to do so? Is there other
documentation that we are missing?
Thank you for answering so promptly.

203.3 | SAT from HP OpenView | PCBUOA::BRACKEN | | Tue Feb 04 1997 14:42 | 9 |
| As of Server Works Version 2.2 you can launch the Server Works Browser
from HP OpenView. The Browser in turn can launch the Server Works Alarm
Tool from the Tools Menu and as long as you stick to the set of alarms
that correspond with those mentioned in my note above you should be
able to get traps. The other point is that HP OpenView expects the udp
service to be on another port for traps. This you'll have to modify in
the services configuration on the agent side.
