Any comments on other field experience for OS2 and Serverworks support?

So far we bidded twice:
- we won 50 LX575, with os2 no problem (Italian Telecom)
- we still on going with 800 zx6166 quad proc (ENEL electricity board Italy)
We have had no problems in compatibility/support.IBM itself has been
cooperating in this respect (their end user support free lines).
There is some support for SNMP agents. pls read attacched mails.
Hope this helps,
Ennio.

>
>John,
>
>customer requires the software necessary to provide SNMP server
>management from a AIX Netview station. It does not specify functions.
>>>Understood.
>They specify OS/2 op. sys (and WNT), so we must assume that for the
>former they are going to use WARP server, therefore as we are told,
>there is an SNMP agent included.
>>>Yes, we agree. Engineering tested OS/2 WARP server today and discovered
>>>that IBM has included a Host Resources Agent in the OS/2 software.
Although >>>the testing is preliminary, we have discovered that
approximately 90% of the >>>ServerWORKS V1.1 functionality works
correctly when managing a Prioris Server >>>running OS/2. Features
that don't work are limited to the NIC card and the
>>>environmentals (voltages, temperature, fan status etc..) Everything
else seems to
>>>work OK such as setting status and threshold alarms etc... That means
we would >>>not have to develop an OS/2 agent if your customer were
interested in managing >>>their OS/2 Prioris servers using
ServerWORKS Manager on a PC desktop...!
>What we must be sure of, pls confirm, is the minimum level of
>"service" provided by the combination of this agent on a ZX6 with
>netview 6000 (i.e. identification of ZX ICON in the Netview map, alive
>check,MIB browsing functions pls state).
>>>We do not have Netview 6000/AIX here and therefore cannot test the
level of service
>>>realtime. However, as I indicated to you in my earlier mail today,
Engineering >>>believes that you would be able to do some level of
'crude' manageability via the
>>>Netview MIB browser. The server ICONs would be displayed in the
topology map
>>>as generic servers (not ZX6000 servers). Minimum functionality using
Netview WS.
>
>If any other optional software may improve this functionality, in the
>netview 6000 environment, pls state it that we will quote it
>(Netfinity? System View utilities?).
>>>Based on very preliminary research, it appears that SystemView will
provide a
>>>significant amount of management for the OS/2 agent running on Prioris
servers.
>>>Functionality includes:
>>> -Discovery of systems using TCP/IP -Custom groups of servers
>>> -Alert notification on viewer for problems -Define alerts (CPU
Util.,
MemUsage)
>>> -Monitor critical files & processes -Remote log on
>>> -Account security/admin password -SMS integration
>>> -Software installation -Software inventory
>>>Additionally, you can integrate SystemView into Netview and 'launch'
the >>>SystemView GUI. You would then be able provide the above
noted management.
>If there is no such possibility we are going to state in our offer
>the minimum functions we provide, and the additional cost to provide
>"normal" functions (pls list function, costs and time).
>
>Same for WNT. Here we have Sworks, but again, the management system is
>NETVIEW 6000. Pls confirm functionalities we can ensure in this
>environment, i.e. transmission of alarms and traps,etc.
>>>We don't know if SystemView can manage Windows NT, or how much of
>>>Windows NT OS can managed from the Netview MIB browser. Given the
limited >>>resources and time constraints we simply don't have this
information.
>>>Your customer would have the best management story if they would agree
to use
>>>ServerWORKS Manager either as the management console with OS/2, or as a
>>>complete solution with Prioris servers running Windows NT.
>>>Regards/john
>Thanks a lot for your support,
>
>Ennio.
>
>P.s. this bid must be ready by Friday at the latest. Pls give your
>best answer by friday morning, but keep us informed on
>progress.
