I have a Dec pc at home, with a PCXAL-FA keyboard. I have a new computer desk, and in the new setup the keyboard cable is about 2 to 3 feet too short to reach the system box. The cable seems to be undetachable, and so I guess I need an extension as opposed to a longer replacement. Can anyone tell me the magic description I should write down and take to the local electronics store so I buy the right thing? Thanks a lot.

You've probably already figured this out for yourself, but.. PCs have two kinds of Keyboard connectors; the 5-pin DIN, and the mini-DIN. The 5-pin DIN is maybe half an inch in diameter and has (phew!) 5 pins, while the mini-DIN is about a quarter inch in diameter and has "more" pins (I forget how many, maybe 8 and some plastic index pin..) Look at the cable, place it in one of the above categories, and head for Fry's .. ...tom |
