Integrating Distributed Applications with
DECmessageQ V3.2 FOR VMS, UNIX & NT
THIS IS A JOINT CUSTOMERS & EMPLOYEES TRAINING
**********************************************
BRIEF SYNOPSIS
DECmessageQ is a powerful development environment that helps you integrate
distributed applications quickly across a range of hardware platforms and
operating systems. It enjoys the broadest platform support in the
industry, including the major UNIX operations systems, OpenVMS, WindowsNT,
Macintosh, OS/2, Microsoft Windows, MS-DOS, and selected IBM environments.
This easy-to-use messaging software enables messages to be sent from one
application to another through an advanced, queued message bus. By
simplifying the communications interface, DECmessageQ frees development
staff from the intricacies of diverse hardware and networking protocols.
As a result, developers can concentrate on building mission-critical
applications to support the business need.
The objective of the DECmessageQ training is to prepare you to write
DECmessageQ applications.
POSITIONING STATEMENT
Interprocess communication for the development of efficient distributed
applications. DECmessageQ simplifies communication between networks and
applications.
As the information needs of business continue to grow, applications that
were once centralized are becoming more complex and distributed. In this
challenging development environment, you need tools that can efficiently
and effectively work with distributed application systems. Specifically,
you need a development tool that communicates with ease between processes,
regardless of where they reside in the network.
Digital has solved the problem of complex network software communication
with DECmessageQ. DECmessageQ is an easy-to-use, powerful, and
cost-effective messaging tool. With its message bus architecture,
DECmessageQ provides a clear communication path through DECnet, TCP/IP and
SNA networks.
DECmessageQ provides support across DECnet for VMS (server), VMS LU 6.2
services (client) for IBM(TM) CICS and IMS interconnect, Digital UNIX
(server), Microsoft Windows NT (both Intel and AXP), MS-DOS, OS/2(TM), and
MACINTOSH (clients). The DECmessageQ V3.2 product set also delivers
interprocess-message queuing via TCP/IP for UNIX systems with server
support on Digital UNIX, HP-UX, NCR UNIX, AIX, SUN and SOLARIS (SPARC)
platforms; client support is added for all Microsoft Windows environments
(Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT, with both 16-bit and 32-bit VBX
libraries), over both DECnet and TCP/IP. DECmessageQ V3.2 extends client
support to the above UNIX platforms and IBM MVS systems (BATCH and CICS)
over TCP/IP. The DECmessageQ MQseries Connection on HP/UX and AIX provides
universal message queuing for existing IBM customers.
With DECmessageQ as its communication tool, your application development
team is more productive.
TARGET AUDIENCE Application designers and Developers, Project
Managers, Software Specialists, Customer Services
Engineer,...supporting applications that use
DECmessageQ, or who need to develop new applications
integrating DECmessageQ. This course is also intended
for people who have to design Distributed System &
Client/Server applications. Furthermore, system
managers who have to install and configure
DECmessageQ.
PREREQUISITES Basic Networks experience desired, either DECnet, or
TCP/IP. On VMS, one programming language of ADA,
Cobol, C, Pascal or Fortran; on other platforms, C
language experience, and optionally, Visual Basic for
programming under MS-Windows.
COURSE OBJECTIVES Using DECmessageQ for implementing and managing a
distributed application, the students will learn the
API, configuration and management of DECmessageQ in a
networked environment.
COURSE DESCRIPTION This course provides a technical overview of
DECmessageQ. The following topics will be introduced;
there will be lab exercises, so participants will
implement DECmessageQ programs, run tests, and use
DECmessageQ utilities and services. Practical work may
be on VMS, UNIX, NT or PC environments; please specify
your desired platform when you enrol.
