| 895.1 | PBXDP supported in WAN V2.0-A | OZROCK::HARTWIG | Arthur Hartwig, TaN Engineering-Australia | Fri May 02 1997 00:25 | 7 |
| | There should have been some words in the SPD for WAN Support V2.0-A
that the PBXDP is supported on all systems with a PCI bus.

From memory, PBXDP support was new in WAN Support V2.0-A, so make sure
you have the correct version. I would expect to see some details about
WAN V3.0 within a couple of weeks.

| | Hi Arthur,

Thank you very much for your information about the
support of the PBXDP on the AlphaStation 255.

I will carry the word to my customer. But if it is
supported, it really should be stated in the SPD.
The PBXDP is indeed supported on most system, but
the Station 200 and 255 only shows the PBXDI as supported.

Here is a cut/paste section of the SPD:

     System__________________Devices_supported__________________________

               DEC 2000 Model 500 DNSES

               AlphaServer 2000 DNSES/PBXDP-Ax

               AlphaServer 2100 DNSES/PBXDP-Ax

               AlphaServer 8200 DNSES/PBXDP-Ax

               AlphaServer 400 PBXDI-Ax/PBXDP-Ax

               AlphaStation 200 PBXDI-A

               AlphaStation 250 PBXDI-A

               AlphaStation 400 PBXDI-Ax/PBXDP-Ax

    	       AlphaStation_600 DNSES/PBXDP-Ax

The customer is anxiously waiting for V3.0
When available, I will most probably have to provide him
with the internal kit while his order gets processed along
    with the SBB delays.

    REgards,

    Vince.

| 895.3 | Not an easy matter to keep the SPD up-to-date | OZROCK::HARTWIG | Arthur Hartwig, TaN Engineering-Australia | Fri May 02 1997 23:51 | 18 |

    	I agree.

Unfortunately its very difficult to keep the SPD up to date
for a variety of reasons. New systems come out frequently; the product
manager isn't necessarily aware of the buses on these systems, the
people who review the SPD aren't necessarily aware of the new systems
and their features. The engineering group doesn't as a matter of course
get access to new systems for testing and the support is now outsourced
as well. I don't think the support contract includes testing of
    hardware on new systems.

Its not any easy problem to fix. I'd welcome constructive
    suggestions.

  I really want configuration manual.
I found that AS255 seems to support PBXDI on document. However,
AS255/300 has taller heatsink than 255/233, and it's only 1-2 mm from
PBXDI to heatsink !! It looks problem for me. (customer ???)
  Now I'm testing PBXDP.
