880.0. "LLC2 problem reported by LAN client" by FORTY2::JONES (Neil) Wed Apr 02 1997 03:53

    Hi,

I get the following event when trying a LAN-WAN connection on the
client. The client is UNIX and the Server is VMS.

    Event: Port Terminated
           from: Node DEC:.reo.xpltiv X25 Access

I think I have a LLC2 problem. Is there any details I should collect
or is it really obvious what the problem is? My apologies I am a
    X.25 newbie of 3 days.

[ p.s. I have modified the addresses for security reasons but they
    	   are same length]

I should add that I have followed the steps in the Problem Solving
Guide and ended up in Section 2.4.3 LLC2 Link set up failure.

I have checked everything, and as far as the untrained eye can see,
everything looks ok. I run ctf trace as suggested and all I see is

    16:38:10.60| Tx| 6| 7E 7E C P XID Id=81, Type=03, Window=127
    16:38:11.61|AKTO| 0| Ack Timer Expired |
    16:38:11.61| Tx| 6| 7E 7E C P XID Id=81, Type=03, Window=127
    16:38:12.61|AKTO| 0| Ack Timer Expired |
    16:38:12.61| Tx| 6| 7E 7E C P XID Id=81, Type=03, Window=127

Which looks like lots of requests being transmitted but not being
acknowledged by the X.25 server. Is this correct?

You are not receiving any frames so the link cannot
be established.

You will need to be sure that each system has the correct
MAC address in the LLC2 SAP. Also, be sure that the LSAP
Address matches at each end. This is setup within the
configurator, it's best to check these from the configurator
by selecting 'Modify Existing Configuration' (wording may not
be correct), then navigate your way to the LLC2 DTE. From
there select the DTE you're interested in, and check MAC
Addresses and LSAPs. If you still can't figure it out, you
can paste those screens in as a reply, and I'll take a look
when I get a few moments.

If you still can't get it going, it would be helpful to see a
trace from both systems.

Regards,
Matt.

I think what I was trying was unsupported. PSI does not support
LLC2 on VMS 6.2 (the access node was VMS)

I have abandoned this approach. We have installed PSI on the client
system and everything is ok as we are now using the GAP protocol.

Apologies for any wasted time, I am very new to X.25...
