1207.0. "Boys" by VAXCPU::michaud (Kevin Pollack) Sat Jan 25 1997 00:59
I'm not sure what year this came out at the theatres for
award purposes, but if it came out in '96 then Ebert
should of put this on his worst list instead of Striptease.
Winona Ryder stars as a 25 year old young woman who falls
off her horse and is knocked unconcious. A couple of
boys from a nearby all-male boarding school find her
and are able for a few minutes to wake her up. They first
offer to bring her to the hospital, she refuses, and then
they offer to drive her home, and she also refuses that.
She then passes out again, so the oldest of the boys (a
senior), with the help of a couple of younger boys, brings
her back to his dorm room.
For some reason this oldest boy wants to quit school. The
girl and this boy get involved, and so on and so on.
Guess it's a movie about a couple of slackers, the two main
characters have no motivation. The movie also seems to end
rather abruptly, partly probably because the movie is
only 86 minutes long.
A definite thumbs down from me. Winona usually picks much
better films than this one. Maybe it was made prior to
her breakout as a real actress and dusted off the shelf
when the producer though they could finally cash in.
