Get set for yet another crazed stalker courtesy of Mr Robert DeNiro.
DeNiro plays San Francisco knife salesman Gil Reynard, a huge fan of
his hometeam, the Giants. So when the Giants sign superstar
centerfielder, Bobbie Rayburn (Wesley Snpies), away from from the
Braves, Gil is quite ecstatic. And he lets everyone know his feelings
via a live radio call in show hosted by Jewel Stern (Ellen Barkin).
But when Rayburn hits a batting slump, and his biggest rival begins to
surpass him in the standings, Gil decides it's time he step in to help
save his idol's reputation. Even if it means murder.......
Well, I don't know 'bout all that but from the previews I've seen it
looks like it may be a pretty decent flick.
And you just gotta love it when DeNiro starts the crazed, obsessed
stalker thing......ala King of Comedy, Cape Fear and the like.
Well peoples, what do ya think?? Yes, no, wait for rental, or what??

The local papers in Boston cut it up, but I think with Deniro in this
flick I will have to see it for myself.

I was on the Hollywood Reporter's site, and they asked users of the
site to tell them what the user's thought of this film.
Here are some of the responses:
"Walked out after 30 minutes of being assaulted by sound, bad lighting,
terrible dialogue and mugging instead of acting."
"The film's only redeeming value is a $60 million-dollar object lesson
in the perils of 'form over content' filmmaking. It works for
commercials and MTV but it's death in the theaters."
"I think you were a little hard on this film. I'd rate it a B-minus."
"I enjoyed 'The Fan' quite a bit. It was well acted, with De Niro
turning in another strong performance and Snipes doing a quite good
job. Tony Scott's direction was on par as usual and the soundtrack was
excellent."

I caugt this recently on video and thought it wasn't bad. Deniro plays
a psycho(again) and does a good job. Snipes, IMHO, was perfectly cast
as the superstar baseball player(gee, someone who looks like an
athlete, playing an athlete. What a novel concept)! Barkin is somewhat
amusing as a Sports Radio personality but she really isn't around as
much as I thought she would be.
There are a couple of times when the film kind of confuses the viewer,
because of the way the film was shot and they get a little carried away
with the F-word (but what R rated film doesn't these days) but overall
I can't complain.
I found the movie to be very entertaining, a bit disturbing and there
is a nice plot twist at the end.
