Chances are that if you see all the previews, then you'll have seen the
movie! :))))
Actually it looks like a funny flick but I had that problem with
Ace Ventura 2, all the good scenes were overplayed in trailers!

On WCLB this morning, Joanie was going over the entertainment and she
mentioned Jim's new movie - but she said the title wrong, she called
Jims new movied
"The cable BUTT guy"
She had no clue what she did, the DJ's played her report back to her,
and she still did not belive she did that.
I thought it was cute :-0

| I busted a gut!
Again, no match for Pet Detective, but none the less real funny!
I got to see exactly what I wanted so I wasn't disappointed. I also
like the fact that he kept away from his facial contorsions and relied
on his wit and "je ne sais quoi" style! I recommend this one to any of
his fans and to even some of those willing to give him a chance again.
I'd have to give it a 7 out of 10 or a big thumbs up!
Spoilers ahead:
My favorite parts...the Basket Ball game, the Medieval Times dinner and
the fight scene in the bathroom!
Worst part...very weird ending!??!?!?

That clunking sound you hear is apparently heads rolling at Sony
Pictures. The word is this film is about fifty percent off its
projected earnings curve, however reliable any report of that sort is.

the film will most likely gross about $60-$70 million in north america
alone. it's not as big as his previous films, but it's no disaster
either. i guess you can say it's a mini-hit.

Stiller's to blame???
I've been very impressed with Ben Stiller's work so far, particularly
"Flirting with Disaster" most recently. I was surprised that he'd stoop
so low as to work with Carrey, working with a low-brow humour star
after he had made a name for himself creating somewhat-intelligent
comedies. Perhaps being able to work with Broderick is what swayed him.
But if anything, I could imagine Stiller doing nothing but to help Carrey
a great deal, to help lowly Carrey up a few pegs on the humour scale
(out of the purely "clown and bathroom humour" arena). How lucky
Carrey was to work with two people of notable talent, perhaps it will
rub off on him, but I doubt it.

Erik,
Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way about Carrey. I
think the guy has no real talent and that he is the exact same in
everyone of his movies. I would have liked Batman Forever much better
if he wasn't the Ridler, because each time he spoke the only thing I
could think of was Ace Ventura. All of his characters just run into
each other.

thinking someone is not funny does not equate to "No talent"
I think that criticism is a bit harsh , that's all.

"Funny" is a subjective thing, which was the point of .15's
reply.
Similarly, just because you think that a particular musical
group is horrible, it doesn't mean that they have no talent.
It just means that you don't like them.
|
1107.18 | | SNAX::NOONAN | sing the soul's blues | Thu Jul 11 1996 00:15 | 9 |
| That is quite true. But, then, "talent" is also a subjective thing.
There are people who think I have no talent as an acter, and other
people who pay me for my talent as an acter.
Would it be better if I said "IMHO, Jim Carrey has little to no talent
as a comedian and acter"?

And I class myself as a Jim Carrey fan!! But this was not one of his
funniest films (yes - I think he's extreeeeeeemely funny/talented -
whatever?!!)
It still made me smile and I did laugh a couple of times - so it wasn't
thaaaaat bad!!
Could've been better!
Shame! - But I'm sure he'll bounce back in his next film!!
S..x
PS Did you all know that he acts as a real 'spoilt brat' when filming
and demands more money than Stallone etc for his films??!! Don't really
think he's a nice guy!

| Re .23
The breast pressing thing is a reference to "Midnight Run", I think.
I saw this at the weekend and can't quite decide if I loved it or just liked it.
It's definitely *not* as funny as his other films, but makes up for this in
other ways.
The basketball scene was quite funny. Did you know that Jim didn't actually
dribble the ball or do any of those clever ball things ? He couldn't do it so he
mimed the actions and the ball was CG'ed in later. Clever, eh ?
My favourite scene has to be his rendition of Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to
Love" (I think that's what it was called). Hilarious !
Jim's greatest talent is playing Jim Carrey. I'd like to see him do something
more serious, just to see if he's capable. Robin Williams did it successfully.
Overall I'd say 3 out of 5.

>>I'd like to see him do something more serious, just to see if he's

I saw quite a serious side to him back when he was going by the name
of James Carrey. It was a made for TV movie called "Doing Time on
Maple Drive" and he played an alcoholic teen who lived with his
controlling parents and messed up brother and sister. Not the greatest
film but Jim did put in a pretty good performance.
I think it might have been a Canadian flick.

| I haven't seen this movie, but I believe the "breast against the glass"
thing was a parody from "Midnight Express" - the excellent movie
starring Brad Davis, who has since died of AIDS. Getting caught with
drugs in Turkey is most definitely NOT the thing to do!
