1091.0. "A Streetcar Named Desire" by VAXCPU::michaud (Tootsie) Mon Jun 03 1996 19:31
This one stars Jessica Lange (as Blance), Alec Baldwin (as
Stanley), John Goodman (as Mitch), and Diane Lane (as Stella).
From the description on the box and from vauge memories, I believe
this was originally a broadway play (the box says Lange and Baldwin
"revivie" their roles).
Stella is married to Stanley and they live in New Orleans, LA.
Mitch is a co-worker/ex-war buddy of Stanley's. And Blance is
the older sister of Stella who comes for an un-announced visit
on her sister/brother-in-law. Blance has her nose stuck up in
the air and is shocked to find her sister living in a two room
apartment, and no servants. Mitch falls for Blance because she
appears to be a respectable lady whom he can take home to his
ailing mother.
Lange was nominated for a golden globe for her performance, but
I felt all four of the stars turned in very strong performances
(especially Lane and Goodman).
The film is not rated, and even though the violence and language
is minimal, I'd say the adult themes make this more of an adult film.

1091.1 | See the original with Brando and Leigh | CADSYS::KELLEY | So to speak | Tue Jun 04 1996 11:41 | 9 |

This is a Tennessee Williams play performed many times over the
years. One of the earliest Blanche Dubois, I believe, was Jessica Tandy.
I think Brando starred on Broadway with Tandy and later in the movie
with Vivien Leigh as Blanche. I believe they both won Oscars or maybe just Leigh.

1091.2 | The play is good, but... | SHRCTR::SCHILTON | Press any key..no,no,not that one! | Tue Jun 04 1996 15:46 | 7 |
| I saw the play with Baldwin/Lange when it was shown on TV last
year. It was terrific, Baldwin was really good but it wasn't
quite up to the Brando/Carl Malden version.
I don't think anyone could ever beat that one.
