| Dragon Heart stars...
Dennis Quaid David Thewlis and Sean Connery as Draco
From what I've seen, there's some great special F/X, kinda like a
Dungeons & Dragons type Fantasy Flick.
Despite some laughter from some of the people in front of me in the
theatre the other month, I plan on putting this one on my list of "Must
See".

Sean Connery providing the voice of the Louis Gossett character.

| Well, as someone who's somewhat of a sucker for fantasy movies, it
looks interesting enough to me that I'll probably see it. My only real
wince factor so far is that the dragon sounds too much like Sean
Connery voicing a dragon and not enough like a dragon. I mean, add
some depth or rumble to the voice or someting to make it sound like a
big old animal snarling "I am the LAST one!" instead of just using Mr.
Connery (who has a fine voice, BTW, just a tremendously recognizable
and, uh, human sounding one) doing voice overs.
After all, they put all that effort into making the dragon seem "real"
otherwise....
Just my two cents. Maybe I'll think better of it after seeing the
movie, maybe not.
Cheers,
kim

I agree, his voice is apropriate with that some what gothic sound
but could have used a grungier sound to it....

True followers of fanatasy should remember that REAL dragons can charm
you to distractio, lull you into a false sense of security or
completely beguile you. Before seeing the movie, I'm allowing that
Sean Connery may in fact have the perfect voice ..............
(What I learned about dragons started with the Hobbit......)
I too am looking forward to this and hope not to be disappointed.....

| Yeah it was pretty good, although I was a little dissapointed!
F/X were top notch...even more believable than JP dinos (9)
Story could have used a little more immagination, but it was ok (5)
Acting/casting I didnt think I'd like Dennis Quaid but I did and Sean
Conerys voice was very well suited for Draco. (8)
Overall 7.2
I just wished it had more of a D&D story to it!

| Saw it. A mediocre story with some painfully bad stuff (including some
New Age Hooey which I can very much do without), but a nifty dragon
that I liked far more than I thought I would have. Much funnier than
I'd have expected but that's because of the reparte between Dennis
Quaid (who inexplicably talks in a deep, scratchy Pirate voice, without
the Pirate jargon) and the dragon. He's a very easy-going dragon, no
velocipator here. And he snorts fireballs out of his nostrils (makes
me wonder what his sinus passages are made out of, but that's just me),
which is fun for the kids.
If you can sort of force your way past the lacking points (and there
are many) of the movie, you may very well enjoy yourself. They (the
CGI types) did a good job with the dragon and not too many seams show
between the "real" world and the beast.
It was far from great, but entertaining in a very low-expectation sort
of way.
**.5 out of ****

| I'd say OK for that age group. There's little or no "adult content",
but a fair amount of violence as rebel peasants are crushed by
the evil king/prince. The dragon is certainly not going to be
the source of any nightmares.

| The wheat field going up in flames was pretty neat.
Reminded me of the napalm run in "Apocalypse."
Dennis is capable of more passion than he showed in the
flick. I think he could have done better. He also seemed
to oscillate from a Scottish brogue to an Irish accent.
The kid-king was great. I kept saying to myself during the
movie, "Someone please pinch his head off." His picture is
next to the word "loathsome" in the dictionary.
I like movies that snooker me (one of the reasons "The
Sting" is high on my list). When Mom presented the five
dragonslayers to her son, I simply said, "B*tch." After
all, it was her action that put the pimple on the throne.
Enjoyed having to eat my words on that one.

| Okay, I enjoyed the movie as pure entertainment.
Would any of you know if there might be posters available? In particular, I'd
love to get my hands on the scene after King Arthur's appearance, when Drago
shielded the emotionally spent knight from the downpour of rain.
I personally found the scene to be poignant. Symbolic of their new relationship.
Any info/pointers on Dragonheart paraphernalia?
Thanks,
Sue

A common affliction amongst american actors, I feel. just listen to Scottie from
Star Trek !
Then again, he did try. Sean Connery doesn't even bother trying to do accents. I
wonder, is this a case of less is more ? Maybe I should start a new topic for
accents ?

| Saw this over the christmas holiday - mainly because of Sean Connery
and to see how they did the 'dragon'. Didn't know what to expect.
Ended up liking it very much. Would not have recognized Dennis Quaid
without the credits. as an earlier noter said - the king-son needed his
head pinched off! Liked the mother - again - didn't realize who it was
until the credits. It was nice to realize she still had spirit despite
what must have been a brutal marriage and a vast dissapointment (in her
son).
I like Sean connery's voice, irregardless of accent and thought he had
a very dashing dragon's voice. but then, I am partial to connery
already.
the special effects with the dragon were pretty good. The technology is
almost ready to do some of the Anne McCaffrey Dragons of Pern stories
without it looking really hookey. Though I'm not sure if the mixing of
a generated dragon with a human on it would like any good.
I also liked the confrontation scene where Draco goes to swallow the
knight and they end up in a stalemate.
good rental!
possible spoiler comments after formfeed
I like that Draco and the knight team up to scam nobility. The second
plunge into water, where it's only a few feet deep is really funny.
I was bummed at the end, but it is the only logical ending. It would
have been nice to somehow preserve the dragon, but do away with the
king.
