| The two biggest ones off of the top of my head are Arnold
Schwarzenegger and Jim Carey!
Jim gets $20million a flick and as a trade off we get a really good
abdominal work-out. If he keeps up with his brand of humor I think
he'll always be worth that price!
Arnie is a god! With out him I'd a grown up with Jean-Claude Van Damme
as an icon...NOT!!! Even with his supposed flop of a movie "The Last
Action Hero" he can still pack'em in with True Lies (most recent) and
his upcoming "Erasure" which will hold his typical one liners and
average of 500 kills a film! Anyone who wants to protest...go to Arnie
and tell it to his face!!! 8*)

| The list is endless, like the list of highly paid rock stars.
I wonder, as a philantropic thing, Hollywood could have it's own
version of "Live Aid" where all the best stars do a movie for
zilch and the proceeds go to some charity or other.

| I personally could care less about how much a movie makes. If you look
at the top 10 list, often mediocre movies are right up there.
I mean, when they publish that list each week, am I supposed to
get all excited and see a movie because it made 10 million bucks last
weekend? Does that make Diabolique worth seeing?
I'm not suggesting that this is the intent of your note. Just seemed
like a good place to get this off my chest. It always bothers me to
see that top 10 grossing movies list each week, like that is the
barometer of greatness.

| Off topic but.....
I find the top ten movie grosses very interesting to watch. If I'm
wondering if a movie is real good or not, often the position of the
film in the top ten, say about week #4 will tell me if it is catching
on or bombing. Word of mouth has usually gotten around by then.

Demi Moore at 12 mil.
Lawrence Fishburne underpaid at ?????

| Supply and demand rules I guess. It all comes down to the consumer.
Would you prefer to pay $8 to see Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks, or $7 with
an unknown taking the part? Maybe $5 with all unknowns? Does their
acting ability make THAT much difference? Subjective thing I guess.

| Actually, Jim carrey just started getting paid big bucks after the
success of the first Ace Ventura and The Mask. But if he keeps making
movies like Ace Ventura:When nature calls then his flame will burn out
fast. i think he has a few years at the top unless he can be a little
more diverse in his roles. Everybody remembers Eddie Murphy, right?

| My comment was about Murphy. The last thing I saw from him that was even
remotely funny was the African prince story from many years ago, and at that
there were only a few good scenes. ("Bark like a dog. A *big* dog." :-))
I can't imagine why anyone would pay him "big bucks", since he hasn't been
in a watchable movie for over a decade, at least one that I know about...
I saw a clip from "The Nutty Professor" over the weekend, and it looks like
they're really reaching. Lots of badly done slaptick and "fall down" gags.
I think Dick Van Dyke (?) did it better 30 years ago or so...

I disagree
Jim Carrey is incredibly talented!! His Ace Ventura 2 movie was
unfortunately a badly done clone of all his gags from the first movie.
The Mask was excellent and Dumb and Dumber was hilarious too!
The Rhino scene from Ace Ventura 2 still gets me going!! :))

Jason,
Jerry Lewis in his time was a much better comedian than Jim Carrey will
ever be.
It was Jerry that perfected, if not started, the facial quirks that Jim
Carrey is known for.

is WAY funnier than Jerry Lewis. I saw Jerry Lewis Movies when I was a

BTW, some of the stuff he did on "In Living Color", like Firemarshal
