1048.1 | Tough to find the original | CADSYS::KELLEY | Elucidator | Tue Mar 12 1996 15:17 | 13 |
| I also enjoyed this movie quite a bit.
I thought Greg Kinnear was perfect for
the role of the carefree and irresponsible
David.
I've been trying to find the original on
videotape but haven't had any luck. Libraries
seem like the most likely source for it, since
most video stores tend to limit their older movie
collections.

1048.2 | DEFINITELY SEE THE ORIGINAL | PCBUOA::CHENARD | | Wed Mar 13 1996 10:13 | 7 |
| The original is a wonderful film with Audrey Hepburn,
Humphrey Bogart and William Holden as David with
Martha Hyer as David's fiancee. The library
is your best bet but it is on TV every once in
a great while.

1048.3 | fun movie | STOWOA::JACOBSON_A | | Tue Jun 25 1996 14:19 | 3 |
| We rented Sabrina this weekend. It was a nice light movie. Similar to
a summer novel you would read on the beach. I liked Julia Ormond's
role a lot. The actor who played her father did a nice job too.

I felt this was one of the better recent remakes I've seen, not quite up to
the original though.

1048.5 | Better than the original. | HOTLNE::S_COLLINS | | Wed Jul 31 1996 22:37 | 7 |
| I have to disagree with <.04 . I thought this remake outdid the
original in every department for the exception of the casting of Julia
Ormand. No one will ever come close to the late Audrey Hepburn.
But as Linus Larabee, Ford shows more range than Bogart did in the 50's
version. And late night host Greg Kinear comes close to stealing the
film. All in all Sydney Pollack did a pretty impressive job.

1048.6 | | COMICS::SHELLEY | Don't get mad, get even. | Fri Aug 09 1996 09:31 | 23 |
| We rented this aover the weekend. I had seen the original, my wife had
not.
I felt it was aimed at folks who had seen the original and it was fun
to compare how the story was brought up to date.
I thought Ford did a great job though I did think at times he was
trying to impersonate Bogart. It was quite a long film at 2 hours
considering the very simple story line.
I recognised Angie Dickinson as the fiance's mother and thought "Nah!
can't be" but it checked out in the credits.
It sure leaves you wanting to see the original again.
A quick question after a spoiler -
At the end Linus beats her to Paris by catching Concorde.
How did Bogart do this in the original or did that have a slightly
different ending ? (I can't remember).

It's been awhile since I've seen the original, but as I recall,
Spoiler Alert!
Sabrina gets on the boat to leave for Paris. She is sad and alone.
Linus gets on the boat and sends his hat to her (through a crew member)
with a request that she (?) put a crease in it. That's how she knows
that he's going to go to Paris too, and that they'll be together.

1048.9 | saw both - liked both | GRANPA::JBOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Tue Sep 03 1996 14:55 | 24 |
| rented this over the weekend - both versions - 1995 with Harrison
Ford/Julie Ormond and 1954 with Bogart/Audrey Hepburn/William Holden.
Saw 1995 first, then went back the next day and got the 1954 version.
both storylines similiar. the updates/changes in the 1995 movie were
ok, didn't detract or change the story all that much.
I like the 1995 version better, but not sure if it's because I like
Harrison Ford as a romantic lead more than Humphrey Bogart. I did like
Julie Ormond as the title role and maybe even better than Hepburn.
Ormand seemed a little more naive/innocent with out being over the top.
And my guess is they picked her because she does have similar facial
characteristics as Hepburn, though no where near as stunnning.
Supporting cast in both was also excellant. It was interesting for the
1995 remake, they did away with the wealthy "father" part altogether.
Either one makes an enjoyable rental. (by the way- I rented at
Blockbuster Video. The store I was in had a good amount of both
versions of the film. In fact, I almost picked the 1954 version up by
mistake the first day, thinking it was the 1995 version. On the shelf
right next to each other).
