990.1 | Saw it, liked it | BEMUS::KELLEY | | Thu Jan 04 1996 11:03 | 10 |
| Saw this movie last week and liked it.
It's getting trashed by critics though.
And it's not doing well at the box office.
I think they're being unfair.
One of the loudest movies I ever saw.
The soundtrack was overpowering at times.

990.2 | Geena Davis wasn't having a good time in most of the movie | TNPUBS::NAZZARO | Syracuse fan for a week | Thu Jan 04 1996 13:21 | 15 |
| I must disagree with the base noter regarding Geena Davis' performance
in this movie. Through most of the film, there wasn't much for her to
be happy about, starting with the fate of her father. I wasn't
expecting a devil-may-care swashbuckler, and I don't think that is what
the director intended. I think Rennie Harlan set out to make exactly
what he did - an adventure. And for what he was aiming for, I think he
did a very good (not great) job.
Except for the location of the tresure, I really enjoyed this movie,
and tyhough Geena Davis was wonderful. I dislike snob reviewers like
Gene Siskel who didn't like the film because it didn't break any new
ground. I would like critics to judge films on their own merits. This
movie stands up well on its own.

Well, I liked it enough to see it again. A better sound system (or
possibly a better quality of print) significantly improved the movie's
opening moments for me, when it can be hard to pick the dialogue out of
the music.
I still think Geena Davis wasn't quite up to being the heroine of an
adventure like this, but as I say, I liked it enough to see it twice.

| Saw the movie over Christmas and plan on seeing it again with my daughter(the kids wanted to see Jurmanji
again!). I thought the special effects were outstanding and yes the music in the beginning was a little
overpowering. It was nice to see a strong womans role for an action adventure movie. I kinda get tired
of the damsil in distress that predonminates alot of action movies. Geena Davis held her own wonderfully
in this picture. Matthew Modine did a good job also.
It was fun. It was on the edge of your seat type excitment.

Saw this with my partner over the weekend and we both liked it!
Very action-packed and a strong leading role for women performed by
Geena Davis ( I thought she did a good job ).
Over-all very good!
why the heck did her dad tatoo the map on his head?
Must have been incredibly painful and definitely sets him up to
be chopped!
