I saw this movie over the weekend, very few people were there.

I expected a lot from this movie, but walked out disappointed. Finn,
Wynona Rider, is having doubts about marrying her live-in boyfriend so
she visits her grandmother and great aunt for the summer. The
grandmother and great aunt are members of a quilting bee and we soon
find out about everyone's love life in that quilting bee. Not one
person had a faithful and/or happy marriage. If I were Finn, after
hearing all the tales of broken hearts and unfaithfullness I certainly
would have called off the engagement!

I was very disappointed with the story, but I thought the acting, by
    the whole cast was great.

    just my opinion.

I was wondering whether to give this film a chance. May I ask what
it was you were expecting from the film and how it disappointed
you? Was it simply because the older women's love lives were not
stellar that the film received two thumbs down, or is there more to
it than that? Sounds like the great acting wasn't enough to
    	recover, but from what?

I'd recommend seeing this movie. I had the same problem as .2
regarding the relationships, but apparently to a lesser degree.
I certainly wouldn't say that was reason enough to not see the
movie or to be overly disappointed. The cast was wonderful.
The concept was thought-provoking. The characters were neat.
And I'm interested enough that I'd like to read the book.

954.5Loved it!DELNI::GILCHRESTThu Nov 09 1995 14:258
I saw the movie with my 29 yr. old daughter. It was refreshing for
both of us. I had forgotten how great it was to grow up in the 50's
and was able to share with my daughter how uninhibited life was back
then and how much fun it was. I think Winona Ryder is an excellent
actress, as well as the rest of the cast. It was depressing at times,
    but also refreshing.

Worth the price. If not, it's a top rental.

We must have grown up in different 50's. Uninhibited?
Not in my neck of the universe.

    re: .5

The '50s uninhibited? Where I went to school, girls weren't allowed to
run at recess and I got sent home once for questioning the existence of
a supreme being. I even got dragged to a sex education class where
intercourse was never mentioned and I got grounded for knowing what it
was. A woman who worked was immoral, even if welfare wasn't
    acceptable.

At times I think the 50s were worse than the political correctness of
    the 90s.

My wife and I saw this one over the weekend and we both enjoyed it.
Another feel good type movie that lets you see different perspectives
    on love through several eyes.
