907.0. "Cobb" by SPESHR::JACOBSON () Mon Aug 14 1995 16:26

    I can't believe there is no topic on Cobb. We just rented it. It is
    the life story of Ty Cobb. Tommy Lee Jones was excellent as Ty Cobb.
    Robert Wuhl played a very good roles as the reporter Al Stump. There
    is also a bit appearance by Roger Clemens as an oppositing pitcher.
    If you enjoy baseball movies you'll like this one. Has anyone else
    seen it?

907.1excellent performance by Mr. Jones....ASDG::MCNAMARAstrange visitor......Wed Aug 16 1995 08:3111
    ...yes, and absolutely loved it!!! Tommy Lee was AWESOME, talk about
    becoming the role!!!! My wifve was so-so on it, saying it was too much
    of a "guy" flick (whatever the hell that means!!!) I'd like to see
    Jones take this one-man-show onto Broadway some day in the future, as
    his acting WAS the picture!!! Great insight into a man that many know
    nothing about, but who many still call the greatest baseball
    player of all time....

    Definite rental material for all who have not had the pleasure....

907.2The value of notesTECWT2::BOUDREAUThu Oct 19 1995 09:2914
I rented this after reading the base note and the reply.

I agree, it's excellent. I have to wonder how fictionalized it is. Some
of the sequences, such as the one in Vegas, must be based on something
true to life. Although entertaining as hell, I think Tommy Lee overacts
in a lot of his parts. He HAD to overact in this one. A 70 year-old
alcoholic, morphine addict, who is impotent, with ulcers, a bad back,
and whatever else, just couldn't display the amount of energy and
anger Tommy Lee had Cobb displaying.

Pondering these points takes nothing from the entertainment value of
the movie.  I liked it.
