Rented "Savage Nights" last night and was completely
absorbed in the lead actors performance. This is a French
movie (with English sub-titles) that I had never heard of
before. However, the box caught my attention with the
description as follows: An AIDS-infected musician continues
to have both male and female lovers without informing them.
Caused a sensation in France, where it won the top Cesar
Awards (three days after Collard's AIDS death). Cyril Collard
starred in as well as directed the movie. It also starred
a very good young actress named Romane Bohringer. I found
the movie a little disjointed in storyline and the way it
was filmed, however, it still kept my full attention. I
couldn't help but wonder how long before his death Collard
filmed it - he looks very healthy and in fantastic shape on
film. You could see that his arms had a few lesions on them,
but were they his or his characters? I wondered how
autobiographical the film was. The credits in the end were
in French, and I saw Collards name attached to a few of them,
but couldn't determine if he wrote any of the screenplay.
There were a few scenes of kissing, but you could tell that
they kept it "neat", shall we say. I wondered how the other
actors felt about doing these intimate scenes with someone
who had already acknowledged his AIDS. Anyhow, it's worth
a rental IMHO.

| I saw this movie in the theatre last year, and it really started me
thinking about the variety of ways people must react when they find
out they have AIDS. I wondered how many people are out there who have
it and maliciously hide it. The characters in the movie were scary,
like seeing kids walking around with deadly weapons and not caring who
got hurt.
Overall, the movie was *art* in the sense that it really made me think,
but it's certainly not light entertainment. Romane Bohringer did an
excellent job (and she's a fox) so I hope to see her in the future.
