868.0. "The Reivers (note title formerly was "Name that movie")" by 42441::WEGG (Some hard boiled eggs and some nuts.) Tue Jul 04 1995 11:01

Can anyone identify the following movie? I have seen it only once,
on TV about 30 years ago, so it must have been made in the '50s or
earlier. As you'd expect I don't remember much about it other than...

o It was set in the US in the 20's or 30's.
o It was the story of a family, and at one point one of or more of
the sons is drowned in a storm while fishing.
o There was an old man (grandfather?) who could only drive his car
	  in bare feet.

... that's it, name that film! Does it ring any bells for anyone?

	Regards,

	Ian.

I can't find any info on a film of that name either in Halliwells
or the Internet Movie Database. Are you sure you've got the
        right title?

I can't find any info on a film of that name ...

A bit too literal. It's "The Reivers", 1969, with Steve McQueen.

I've always meant to find a copy of "The Reivers", for two reasons.

    1. I have a good friend whose favorite author is William Faulkner, and
"The Reivers" is one of his favorite Faulkner stories.

    2. In a TV interview a couple of years ago, Steven Spielberg said that
he hired John Williams to do his film music because Williams did such
a superb job writing the score in "The Reivers". I'm curious to hear
the music which caught Speilberg's attention. Actually, the point was
not that the music itself was memorable (though it may be - I haven't
heard it), but that William's music supported the visual aspect of the
    film so well.

I hope someone rents a video and reports back.

Some of the music from "The Reivers" can be found on a 1994 CD
of the Boston Pops playing movie scores of John Williams and
    Aaron Copland.
