850.0. "Holocaust Movies" by KIRKTN::RBERNARD () Fri Jun 09 1995 04:30

    Although this is a subject that is very dark and depraving does anyone
    else agree that more celluloid should be used for this theme, After
    all it was probably the biggest crime of humanity -ever!.There has only
    been a few movies based on it namely:-HOLOCAUST,TRIUMPH OF THE SPIRIT,
    FOR THOSE I LOVED and the by far best to date Schindler's List.
          In my opinion nobody should be allowed to forget about this and
    by making good movies on it they won't be allowed.
          Although 6� million jews were murdered by the Nazi's during WW2
    so along did 2 million Polish,2� Million Russians,Gypsies,Homosexuals
    - All in the same manner! (Not to mention the T4 Mercy killings of 
    250,000 retarded people).
          And it seems that the best part of Movies is dedicated to
    Auschwitz II(Birkenau) Extermination plant with Little or no mention
    of the Chelmno Gas Buses,Belzec,Maidjanek,Sobibor and Treblinka.
          It would be good to see other well made movies made about 
    these people who suffered this terrible crime against humanity.
    
                Does anyone else agree or have any info on new movies?

	Not quite a response to the original note, but of interest. They (everyting is blamed on `they') are now claiming that the Stalin purges murdered a comparable number of victims to those murdered by the Nazis. Barbarism is all around us.

	Another excellent Holocaust movie was SOBIBOR with Alan Arkin. I just taped JONAH WHO LIVES IN A WHALE off one of the premium stations last week but I haven't had time to watch it yet. But I have to agree that SCHINDLER'S LIST is the best I have seen. Mike

	The 12 hour documentry "Shoah" (sp?) is not to be missed. All dramatised accounts pale into insignificance compared to this masterpiece.

	The movie mentioned in .5 is an excellent one. It is called "Escape from Sobibor" and it was a TV movie made about 5 years ago with Alan Arkin, Joanne Pacula and Rutger Haur and it is the true story of how a couple of hundred people made a mass escape from the camp (Jewish, Polish, Russian) . I believe that they closed the camp aferward since this was a huge embarrassement to the Germans. I have seen it a few times. I recommend it. Mo

	Another good documentary is "Hotel Terminus" about Klaus Barbie - which also includes discussions about the CIA enlisting ex-Nazi's after WWII to help fight the Communists, our new enemies.
