| I would guess either British or Australian.
Cheers,

| Sam Neill is either from New Zealand or Australia. His name was
mentioned, along with Judy Davis, in a recent article on
actors/actresses from that area. I don't believe that he is British.

| Sam Neill --> Real name..Neill, Nigel
Born.. 14 September 1947, Northern Ireland
Born in Northern Ireland to army parents, his family
returned to the South Island of New Zealand in 1954.
He went to boarding schools and then attended the
universities at Canterbury and Victoria. He has a BA
in English Literature. Following his graduation, he
worked with the New Zealand Players and other
theater groups. He also was a film director, editor
and scriptwriter for the New Zealand National Film
Unit for 6 years. His first feature film was _Sleeping
Dogs_. He then moved to Australia and his
performance in _My Brilliant Career_ was noticed in
London by British actor James Mason who lobbied for
Neill to get the lead role in _The Final Conflict:
Omen III_. Because of this, Neill moved to England
where he also became famous as the title character
in _Reilly: Ace of Spies_. After his Great Britain
stint, he moved back to Australia in the late 1980s.
He now makes films all over the world. In 1993, he
achieved "commercial and critical success" with
_Jurassic Park_ and _The Piano_.
I hope this help....

| So, Sam Neill is from New Zealand the same way Mel Gibson is from
Australia, it seems.

| The bio in a previous note says that he was born in N. Ireland
and his family "returned" to New Zealand. He may be a real
New Zealander -- the information is not clear.

Eh? Isn't Gibson an Australian? He does a good impression of one...

| No, Mel Gibson was born and lived in a suburb of New York, up
the Hudson somewhere, until the age of 11 or 12.
His father then won sufficient money (he was a champion on Jeopardy
or somehting like that) to move his family to Australia. I read
that he wanted to get his older sons out of the way of the US draft
...the VietNam war was still going on.
