I really like Gary's work. His character range is about as wide
as any I've seen. Also, like my all-time favorite, Steve McQueen,
he has the very rare ability to make the audience forget that he's acting.
That is, he *becomes* the person he's playing.
In the TV movie "My name is Bill Wilson," he plays a stockbroker who gets
in trouble with booze, gets sober, and gets in trouble again. The part is
that of a very mild-mannered individual. Contrast that with the
maniac he plays in Gump. My life experiences and my age allow me to say,
without a doubt, that there were a lot of Lt. Dans in the early '70s. Gary
played that part in a *very* believable manner, I think.
My favorites: "A Mignight Clear," in which he plays a man who is in the
grips of severe combat trauma.
"Forrest Gump" as stated.
and one not mentioned in his filmography, because it just came out:
"Truman," where he is made up to even look like Truman.
I'm a fan.

I'm not a documentary fan, but I did watch "Truman" only because
Gary was in it.
Excellent movie, IMO.

The title role in "My Name id Bill W." was played by James Woods,
not Gary Sinise. If Sinise was in the film (I think he was), he
played a smaller part, a guy who help Bill Wilson get sober.

That's right, Sinise played the part of Ebby, a stockbroker
friend of Bill's, who was on the scene a short while, in
the movie as well as in Bill's early recovery. But he played
a very big part in the movement (AA) that Wilson got off the ground
over the next few years. The big part is topic for a whole other
conference.
Thanks for pointing that out,
-Steve
