Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, Robert Englund, and others in the
sequels.
Robert Englund plays Freddy Krueger, a serial killer who's roasted
alive by a vigilante team consisting of the neighborhood mothers.
But, now he's resurrected through the dreams of all the kids in the
neighborhood and becomes even more dangerous than when he was alive.
Starting with III, they adopted the "Dreamscape" concept whereby
people could project themselves into others' dreams to fight him
together.

And I saw "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" last week and it's fan-
tastic.
Stars Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, John Saxon, and a good
portion of the crew [playing themselves] from the series.
Heather is looking MIGHTY fine, I must say.
The premise is that Wes is currently writing a script for a new
installment in the series, and Heather is married to one of the
F/X guys, and they have a kid. They are getting strange phone
calls [sounds like Freddy], but it's hard to believe it could be
him since Freddy is only a character in a movie, and this is real
life!! So heather chalks it up to a crank caller and the police
are notified.
Mild spoiler stuff [more like a quick overview, but you might want
to skip it if you want to be completely surprised if/when you see
it]:
As the story progresses, it becomes evident that these events are
coinciding exactly with Wes' script, and in the script it's said
that Heather must reprise her role and fight Freddy in order for
him to be killed.
About 2/3 through the movie, there is an instantaneous change-over
from "real" to "movie" as the actors become the original characters
once again.

I really like the way they wrapped up "New Nightmare..." In fact, I
liked the whole movie - it had a lot of the great writing and twisty
"is it live or Memorex?" conundrums that made the 1st movie a classic.

Proud to say that I have never paid my hard earned money to see
any of these vego-matic movies. I just have to turn on the
evening news.
