I talked to my sister last night who lives in Tucson Az. It seems the the movie location Old Tucson was burning down. She said that the people in the city could see the smoke coming over the mountains on the west side of town. I visited that set many time when I was attending the Univ. of Ariz. They must of filmed hundreds of movies, serials, and commercials. The most recent 2 that come to mind are Tombstone and a Barbque(sp) sauce commercial. I did get to meet Clint Eastwood when he was filming Joe Kidd. Anyway on this mornings news they had some pretty dramatic pictures and said that at least 3/4 of it burnt down last night. It's pretty remote and I can see why it took a long time to get any fire fighting equipment there. Besides it was mostly built with wood and considering the dryness of the desert, I can see why it went up so quick.

I was just there a few weeks ago, they were filming the barbeque commercial. I'm glad I got to see those original sets for so many classic westerns while they still existed. Randy |
