| There's a small write-up (highlot box) in this weeks Entertainment
Weekly about it. From that writeup it appears you can't even tell
who the actor is since it's kinda like a Robocop character (and the
voice is supposed to be James Earl Jones?).

| Can't wait for this.
As a little tit-bit of information, all the vehicles in the film
(except the bikes, I believe) are Land Rovers. The writers believed
they'd be the only vehicle still in production in the future. If you
look carefully you'll see the familiar Land Rover badge.
All the vehicles were designed and built by Land Rover in Solihull,
England, escpecially for the film, and are based on 101 Forward
Controls... the body is, as you will see, heavily modified!
The bikes in the film were powered by lawn mower engines, except for
one which was needed for stunt work, which was powered by a 650 or
somesuch.
There you got. Little piece of trivia for you!
Cheers,
Dan

| Diane Lane was on "Good Morning America" this morning talking about
the movie. Apparently there are quite a few computer/special effects,
because she was talking about dangling from wires, even though on the
trailer it looked like she was being held by a robot. Sounded pretty
intense.

| Just like Tank Girl, Judge Dredd is from a British comic book/strip
originating from back in the 70's and still being published to date (I
think).
Sylvester Stallone plays the part of Judge Dredd.

| Saw this one on opening weekend (on Sat.) and was surprised that
the theatre was 1/2 full (and this was an 8pm show).
Not a bad film, but certainly nothing to write home about. Would
be better on video I believe. Sly's character most definitly
seems modeled after Robocop (though Sly's character, Dregg, is
all human and not mostly machine like Robocop).
The film IMHO was stolen from Sly by that guy from Sat. Night Live.
FWIW, I believe this film for the 2 day weekend came in as the 5th
top grosser (with $10.someting million).

Sly's character was "DREDD" like the title of the movie! The guy from
Saturday night live is Rob Schneider and is a very funny man.I was
waiting for him to say "hey Judge, the judgemeister, the judge-a-mondo"
etc....!
I saw this with my wife and like it.We saw it on a matinee and it was
worth the $4 we paid.I especially wanted to see it since I was a big
Judge Dredd fan as a lad.
Good effects,ok story,Sly can't act!Not a lot like the comic-book
character!
I'll give it ***/*****.

| I saw Judge Dredd last weekend and enjoyed it for the most part. I
thought that Dredd's sidekick (Rob Schneider) stole the show. He was
hilarious. I enjoyed the special effects and the tone of the movie.
It was a bit thin on plot and characterisation (why didn't Dredd ever
say he was sorry?). And I probably would have preferred Arnold to
Stallone as Dredd, but it was worth the price of admission.
In the comic book genre, I'd have to say I enjoyed Batman Forever
more than this one, but it was fun.

Rob Schneider is great ... that is, I believe he played the wimp
in "The Beverly Hillbillies", and if so then he gets a "thumbs
up" from me.
Stallone made $20M for this movie.

You sure? I think the $20M you may be thinking of is what
he was given in advance to star in a as yet un-named movie
(but as may talk show hosts joke, it will start with the
letter "R", as in Rocky [or Rambo]). He gets to keep the
money regardless of whether the film is ever made or not.

Well, then he made $17.5M for this movie.
There were 2 movies listed and 2 $ amounts, and I mixed them up.

| It's a corny "good vs evil", "shoot-em-up" story with good special
effects. It's aligned with a teenage mentality (as you'd expect it
would be, coming from a comic strip). Plot was thin and predictable.
Acting was fair (although there were few opportunities to really "act"
in this one) . Special effects were great (I liked that warrior
robot the best :-)). If you want to make points with your teenager,
bring'em to this movie (if they haven't already seen it).

Actually, I would have expected this due to the fact that Stallone
is in it.
8^)
[Of course, that doesn't mean I wouldn't like it.]

| Finally saw a decent trailer for this at the weekend (went to see
Batman forever :O).
Looks good, I have heard that the real Dredd fans have not been happy
that Stallone takes his helmet off (Judge Dredd never did in the comics
- or something). Also saw the lady who plays the female Judge (not sure
of the name) on breakfast TV - she was explaining that she didn't enjoy
it 'cause the sets were always lit for the special effects and not for
the actors..
Looking forward to the weekend..
Lee
P.S. It looks like 'ol Sly is wearing contact lenses in the trailer -
looked real odd!
