770.0. "Close My Eyes" by TROOA::TRP109::Chris (if not now, when?) Tue Feb 21 1995 17:00
Well... late night taping screws up again.... I HATE it when the tv guide
indicates a start and stop time, and you tape something and then watch the
whole movie, only to have the tape cut out just before the ending! I make
sure to set the timer for at least 15 minutes after the called for finish
time but still managed to miss the end of a pretty decent movie. It was
called either "Close My Eyes" or "Close Your Eyes" (mods can fix if I got
it wrong) and had basically 3 characters - a brother, a sister and her
husband. The brother was played by Clive Owen, the husband was played by
Alan Rickman and I didn't catch the name of the sister. Movie starts off
with the brother being Mr. Happy-Go-Lucky, and the sister seemingly on the
edge of suicide - absolutely fed up with life. She has her brother stay
over one night, and (much to his surprise) gives him quite the goodnight
kiss! Movie jumps ahead a year or so, and we get another scene that starts
off innocent enough but ends up with another not so innocent kiss. So far,
the sister has initiated these events, and I think the brother was kind of
shocked but maybe starting to get interested. Again, movie flips forward
in time... the sister is now married and her life seems to be getting a
lot more satisfying yet still things progress to the point where the
brother and sister are finally having an affair. (I'll form feed a bunch
of times now in case I'm telling too much...)
So.... for anyone who has seen the movie.... I got to the point where the
sister and husband had decided to move to America (from England). At this
point, the brother is completely dependant on his relationship with his
sister and is begging her not to go. They are at the going away party and
have just had a scene where the brother is screaming, pulling and chasing
his sister until they end up almost being killed on a country road. At
that point, my tape goes off!!! Can somebody please provide me with the
ending to a movie that I had enjoyed, but not enough to want to go out and
rent just to catch what was probably the last 5 minutes.
Thanks,
Chris

770.1 | Is this a real movie, or a so called "Made For TV" movie? | NETRIX::michaud | ABC | Tue Feb 21 1995 17:38 | 0 |
770.2 | It's "real" | TROOA::TRP109::Chris | if not now, when? | Wed Feb 22 1995 12:16 | 7 |
| It's a "real" movie - was out in the theatres maybe two-four years ago and I
remember it got good reviews which is why I wanted to tape it when I noticed
it on late night tv. Had a bit of full frontal nudity (man and woman) which
is why I guess it hasn't been on earlier in the evening. I think it was
released around the same time as another Alan Rickman movie where he played
a ghost that kept inviting his other ghost friends back to his (living)
wife's flat (can't remember the name of that movie)

.2 "Truly, Madly, Deeply" - an excellent film

| It's been a long time since I watched this movie,
but this is what I recall...Alan Rickman finds out about
the whole situation between his wife and brother-in-law,
comes to accept it, and remains married to her. The
brother regains his emotional balance. Kind of banal,
considering what goes on beforehand.

770.6 | SHOWING ON TUESDAY (7th) | YUPPY::JAYP | Paul Jay @HHL | Sat Mar 04 1995 11:03 | 5 |
| This movie is being shown on British TV on Tuesday (7th), If anyone
would like me to video it and sent it on, I'd be only too happy to do
this.
The only trouble would be converting the tape from 'PAL'...

| Paul.... thanks a lot for the offer - that is most kind. However, it
would be cheaper for us to rent it over here. Maybe you could just watch
the last 10 minutes and give me the details :*)
