| It's already been released (in LA at least). It's playing around the
corner from me at the Nuart. It's supposed to be wonderful! I've
heard only good things about it.

Where do you live in MA.?
Is it suppose to open here soon? hope so, her performance is worth
waiting for. Well, at least there are fine works of art such as
Dumb & Dumber that get a huge release production. That's what
America wants......(I do too, in moderation.)
Thanks. BR

That was "LA", not "MA".
I guess she lives in Louisiana.
[That was a joke, son. 8^)]

| Saw "Queen Margot" a few weeks ago. Hmmm, how do I put this?
The French make sad movies.
This is a very French movie.
There's lots of visually striking images in the movie (including
Adjani). But the acting is way over the top, and I found it hard
to actually sit through the whole movie. If your not up on French
history, it may be a little difficult to follow some of the plotlines.
In it's favor, the movie does a better job than many of portraying
the times (1500's) in a more realistic fashion. No brightly lit
spotless white castles here; it's a dingy place, full of dark corners
and filthy little secrets.
Worth a trip to the budget cinema, but certainly not a "date" movie,
unless you consider watching lovers getting poisoned romantic ...

"Way over the top"? Is that good or bad?
It sounds like it's good, but then why would you find it difficult
to sit thru the whole movie?

| "Over the top" = exaggerated, excessive. Think Jon Lovitz's "Master
Thespian"!

| I saw this last night at the West Newton theatre in Mass and realized
this morning that I truly enjoyed watching it. I disagree with the
"over the top" acting comment in .6--I thought the lead characters were
right on with their portrayals at all times.
It may be hard to sit through some scenes due to their vividness
(read, goryness) but that's one of the reasons I think it's a wonderful
film. The movie stays true to 16 century life in a way that few films
ever do, especially on such a grand scale, the opening scenes must have
cost a fortune in the extras costumes alone.
And it definately met my foreign film test: I know it's good if I have
to remember afterwards if it had subtitles or not, because I was that
drawn in to the plot and watching the "visuals".
I won't go into how it made me feel about being raised a
Roman-Catholic.
If you're considering watching this movie I would highly recommend
catching it on a big screen, as much of the grand, larger-than-life
Historical impact and cinematography would be lost viewed on a small screen.

| Rented this one over the weekend and have a few
comments. Found the acting, costumes, music and
sets very good. I'm another one who is not bothered
by reading the sub-titles as long as the movie holds
my attention. In fact, I usually forget about the fact
that I am reading at all. One negative comment is that
I found the plot to be too complicated to follow. I got
the general idea, but not being up on my 16th century
French history, I lost track of some of the finer details.
Can anyone tell me what other movies Victor Perez (The Mole)
has been in that are worth renting?
