| I'd like to offer a counterpoint to .0 -- both my wife and I enjoyed
this movie and it seemed that most of the packed theatre (the new Gen
Cine 14 in Framingham) also had a positive reaction. Also, it was
reviewed on the CBS Sunday Morning show yesterday and he had good
things to say about it. I think it all depends upon whether or not you
like Robert Altman and his style.
I would also disagree with the base-noter about waiting for the video --
unless you have a big screen and really fancy sound system, I suspect
you'd lose too much of the film and would not enjoy it as much as on
the big screen.
Thumbs up from here...

Sophia Loren would look great in anything.
As a matter of fact, she would look just as good in nothing.

For her alone I can't wait to see it.
yes she is 60 years old. Women in their 30's should look
as good as she does now! Robert Altman knows how to pick
his subject matter.

| Saw this last night and enjoyed it. Some funny characters and
incidents, lots going on to keep your interest. Some parts of it worked
better for me than others; there's a sub-"plot" involving Tim Robbins
and Julia Roberts as strangers sharing a hotel room, which I though
particularly weak. I enjoyed a farcical story involving Stephen Rea as a
superstar photographer who acts like a nasty Dylanesque rock star, and
Linda Hunt, Sally Kellerman, and Tracey Ullman as rival magazine editors
bidding for his services.
I thought it a light but highly entertaining movie.

| FWIW, the concensus from professional reviewers is that the fashion
industry is doing a great job of satirizing itself, which leaves the
movie rather pointless or toothless, and generally not up to Altman's
usual standard. The cast gets lots of praise.

| This is the biggest, most self-indulgent piece of film making that I
have ever seen. I enjoyed the movie, and re .2 I do love Altman but
this was not up to snuff. He got real sloppy in story in this one.
You can't argue with that. There was a lot of pointless wonders in
this film...Garr, Robbins, Roberts, Ham Sandwich, Doggie Mess, etc..
I would have enjoyed it more if Altman hadn't pretended that there was
a story going on here. Just keep us back stage watching the craziness
of the fashion industry, following around the wonderfully-wonderful
Basinger, Hunt, Kellerman, Ullman, Rea, Whittaker, etc.
If you like Altman and have NO expectations, go and see it. But be
warned!!! It is not about anything!

| I didn't like this movie either. If I weren't an Altman fan, I suppose
I might have appreciated it as a minor farce, but it didn't seem to me
to be sufficiently funny even at that level. I think the basic problem
is the subject matter. It's hard to satirize something that most people
regard as perfectly ridiculous in the first place. It's like trying to
mock the behavior of clowns.

| Saw it the other night. By the fifth time they had a close-up of
someone's shoe stepping in dog poop, I decided it was making a
statement. And the statement was: Robert Altman should never be
allowed near a camera again!

Many many smiles !! We saw "Ready to Wear" friday nite.. it's a super
Altman-style film... i love the style. and Sophia well gee the
woman is so gorgeous still. and it is really cool to see her and
marcello interacting the same as ever - AS EVER!!! very hot chemistry
on screen ... Sophia and Marcello still have that electric thing going on
between them although everything is left to the imagination - including
where the delicious ending could lead.
A must see for Altman fans - a double must see for Loren/Mastriani fans!!!
