| Siskel gave it a thumbs up, and while Ebert "couldn't" give it a thumbs
up due to sloppiness, apparent haste in filming/editing, and certain
setups not paying off, he did say that during one (unspecified) scene
he laughed harder than he has at any movie in the last 5 years. And he
said there were other *very* funny moments, one of which was when Jim
Carrey was trying to get off a plane (?). S&E agreed that Carrey is
going places in a big way--a surprise to Ebert, who after seeing Ace
Ventura "would have paid almost any amount of money NOT to have to see
him in anything again".
I plan to see it -

I saw this movie over the weekend, and I, like Ebert, laughed harder than
at any other movie in at least five years.
Unlike Ace Ventura, there aren't tons of funny lines that you'll go on
reciting for days. The comedy comes in the form of slapstick.
Jim Carey was his unusual self, and Jeff Daniels played a pretty good dumb guy
as well.

A certain classic. Loads of scatological humor, slapstick,
scatalogical slapstick ( use your imagination here, and yes, the pun
was intended - sorry ). I laughed so damn hard my sides were literally
hurting when I left the theatre.
The best bit for me was the snowball fight . . .

723.9 | I felt silly and sillier for being there, but.... | MDNITE::RIVERS | Whee! | Tue Jan 03 1995 13:29 | 15 |
| I admit, I went and saw it. I did laugh, periodically, but by and
large, it wasn't as funny as I had expected/hoped.
However, youngsters (esp. boys) seemed to have a ball. There was a
lot of bathroom humor. Jim Carrey's timing seemed off. Jeff Daniels
was kinda cute with his frizzy hair and puppy-dog suit, but I kept
wondering if he watched himself afterwards and was embarassed just a
bit.
It was, I guess, all right.

| Well, there were definitely funny *bits* (I liked Harry's crack
regarding his experience in dog breeding; I liked the annoying duet in
the pooch van) but I'm totally bewildered about which scene had Ebert
laughing so hard. I kept waiting for the HUGE hilarious scene... um,
I'm still waiting. Maybe it was one of the many on the trailer.
The snowball scene struck me as a desperation sequence--the director
MUST have been trying to kill time with that one.
But I still love Carrey and Daniels,

you'll love it.

What a film, it was what you might call a classic Jim Carrey film
I still laugh every time I think of the opening scene when JC pulls
up in his limo at the bus stop tochat up the blonde beauty...
Great entertaining film..
I just had to make an entry sorry its a wee bit late

| Naaah ... didn't like it much. Much prefferred the Mask, Ace Ventura
etc.
F'sure there are some funny moments, and Jim Carrey is visually
hilarious, but it just came across as pretty much "been there" and
ill-thought-out. Loved the Jerry Lewis cameo tho ...

(the turbolax was hilarious - "Be Right Out! - I'm Shaving!")

If that's the one in the gas station, the redneck guy was played by (now ex-)
Boston Bruin (hockey) winger Cam Neeley. A couple of hockey-fanatic friends of
mine saw the movie and never noticed that it was him. I may not've noticed
either, but I had heard about it beforehand.

Nope, sorry. I was referring to the part where Jeff Daniels' character was
suffering the effects of a large dose of laxative !
