686.0. "Father of the Bride [1950/1991]" by NEMAIL::CARROLLJ (Even a clown knows when to strike) Tue Nov 01 1994 13:34

Wow! No topic for Father of the Bride? At least dir/tit="father"
    didn't turn one up . . .

I have an oddball question for y'all - I'm getting married and my
fiance wants a violinist at the wedding, and she's like the violinist
to play the same melody that the one in this movie played. My question
is - does anyone know what it is? ( told you it was oddball... )

While I'm at it, I might as well say, this was a terrific movie,
even if it was a remake - I never saw the original, but being a big
Steve Martin fan, I'm assuming I'd like it less :-)

    					Cheers,

The soundtrack is available in most music stores.

And I highly recomend that you see the original...I think it's
better (and I too am a big Steve fan) then the remake.

Watch the original with Spencer Tracey and Elizabeth Taylor as the
    bride.

686.3Pachelbel's Canon in DMUZICK::KUNGWed Nov 02 1994 15:596
If you're talking about the song that she walked down the aisle to,
    I think it's Pachelbel's Canon in D. You'll need more than just
a single violin to pull it off though, at the very least a cello too.

I used that just recently, for our wedding, but we used it off of a CD.
It's about 4+ minutes in its entirety.

Also - If you look in the Music Notes file and do a dir/title=wedding
you'll find an array of selections for wedding music.

    Happy hunting!

(Moderator, the title may need to reflect if this note is for the original,
the ramake, or both.)

The remake was competently done but I much prefer the original. Spencer Tracy
turns in his usual outstanding job and Elizabeth Taylor was at her most
beautiful.
