| I enjoyed this - lots of the jokes were telegraphed way in advance, but
I found most of 'em funny anyway. ['course, they don't call me "Gory
Details" for nothing; some people might not have thought the scene with
Mom and the daughter's boyfriend and the poker in the bathroom was
nearly as funny as I thought it was. ;-)]
Patty Hearst had a dandy running-cameo sort of role as The Woman
Wearing White Shoes After Labor Day. She's almost worth the price of
admission by herself. And Sam Waterston, as Serial Mom's husband, has
some wonderful scenes of growing incredulous horror as he realizes
what's going on - and as he tries to be supportive anyway...
I liked it a lot, but admit it's not likely to be to everyone's taste.

Serial Mom was hillarious: Kathleen Turner turned out perfect as
a John Waters' Character. Some funnt moments at the start with the
phone calls, Her need to make everything perfect in her family...
At the end I think they should of had everyone in court using the
thigh master when Suzanne Sommers walked in.Yahoo!

666.3 | I *loved* it | 11435::MURPHY | Symbolic stack dump follows... | Mon Sep 26 1994 13:53 | 27 |
| I'm a major John Waters fan. I've loved everything he's done (with the
exception of Pink Flamingos). I kinda miss divine but was not
dissapointed by Kathleen Turner.
This film reminds me a lot of "Eating Raoul" wherein it protrays the
main character (or characters) having a sense of confused morality.
I also noticed that Mink Stole was back (as the neighbor that Turner
was Harassing). Last time I saw her in a JW film, it was in Polyester.
She played the "secratary/girlfriend" of Francine Fishpaw's (the main
char played by Divine) Husband (Elmer).
Does anyone know where else I've seen her. She looked familiar when I
saw her in Polyester and she still does - but I can't place her...

| Just a note if anyone rents this with small kids around...there are
some pretty gory moments on screen.

Not to mention lots of usage of some cuss words ....

| I got turned off by some of the grosser moments; someone who enjoys
schlocky horror movies wouldn't have a problem. Other than that, I was
well amused. Kathleen Turner was great!

Well, I have to come forwards and differ from the previous reviews
of this movie. My wife and I kind of felt like "what's the point of
this movie" after we watched it. Yes, it was billed as a comedy, but
wasn't very humorous, had quite a bit of gore, and a lot of gratuitous
foul language. I don't have a problem with foul language when it's
appropriate to get a point across, but it certainly served no purpose
in this movie. My thoughts after watching this movie was that Kathleen
Turner's career must be at an all time low to find herself in this
role.

| It served a purpose - just not one that everyone would appreciate. It
was the juxtoposition of the homely and horrible aspects of her
character that made the movie work (for me anyhow).
Anyhow, nobody that loves JW's work (such as myself) would ever accuse
him of good taste ;-)
