665.0. "Body Snatchers [1993]" by NETRIX::michaud (George Burns) Fri Sep 23 1994 12:58

This is the 2nd remake of the original 1956 film. I never saw
the original, but I did see the 1st remake (1978).

This most recent remake is pretty lame compared to the 1st remake.
While in the film you don't want to fall asleep, watching the film
will put you to sleep. The only things that kept my attention was
some of the special effects, and seeing Gabrielle Anwar topless
(but don't blink or you'll miss it).

In addition to Gabrielle Anwar, the film stars Forest Whitaker, Meg
Tilly, and someone named Terry Kinney.

	Thumbs down.

Actually - I really liked this version of it. I've seen all 3 versions, and
while I like the 1st one best, this is my 2nd favorite. The 2nd version I
never liked much. This one I liked because while the overall story is the
same, it deals with different people in a different part of the country then
the first 2 versions... because of this, I don't really consider it a remake
of the original, it's more an add-on to the first film. Kinda.

Anyways. Thumbs up from me.

I liked it, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

The special effects were very good. For some reason, I didn't like
    the ending at all.

It's been awhile since I rented it.

Is this the one with the pods?

I remember a black and white version and one that I believe had Donald
Southerland that must have been out around 1980.

  They made another one?

  Why?

I think the Donald Sutherland version was a remake of the original
from the 1950's with Kevin McCarthy and who-knows-who-else.

The 80's version should have been in color ... maybe your cable
was on the blink? 8^) [And actually I think that one came out
    	in the mid 70's.]

Yes, the one with Donald Southerland was in color. It was the old one that
I saw that was in black and white.

I just went back and re-read your note and this time around saw
the all-important "and" that separates the b/w movie from the
    	Donald Sutherland version.

So you were right, and I must be getting tired. 8^)

A real waste, and misleading to boot.
The box cover reads something like "Body Snatchers - the Invasion continues."
So I was expecting it to pick up or follow from or do SOMETHING different
from just retelling the same old story, but it didn't and it sucked.
