He's making the talk show rounds and was in Boston Tuesday;
the movie looks good, sci-fi-futuristic; he said thats ok with him
but doesn't like kicking in his underwear...

| I haven't heard anything although I saw the trailer in the theatre when
I went recently to see NBKillers and the audience hooted with delight
when the preview ended. I myself am not a Van Damme fan (I think he's
an idiot...did you see him on Letterman the other night? I remember my
first beer ;*) )

I think it's rather an idiot also. He definately knows he's good
looking and there have been many stories of his "shananigans" with the
ladies! Including fooling around with the wife of the guy who owns the
Hawaiin Tropic suntan lotion company. Apparently VD used to make guest
appearance at the HT Beauty Pagents and he was having a fling with the
guys wife.
I have to admit he IS nice to look at, but he is an arrogant SOB.
The concept of TimeCop looks good though, so I'll probably go see it.
FWIW, it opens today.

| I saw it this weekend... it's an OK movie, ignores a few basic
time-travel principles, including those that it sets up itself...
Definitly not a great movie, but entertaining.

650.6 | The split screen shots needed some work | 65320::RIVERS | Even better than the real thing | Mon Sep 26 1994 10:54 | 27 |
| It was a fun, fluffy movie. A few glaring plot holes, but I tried not
to think too much about the intricate nuances of time travel. This
wasn't a "time travel" movie, it was an action movie which had time
travel as a plot device. Jean-Claude was well, himself, and did a
decent job of doing what the script told him to do. The always fun to
watch Bruce McGill (who played Jean-Claude's boss) was, well, always
fun. Ron Silver was fairly ept as the smarmy senator, but as the
senator was decidedly non-physical, the movie lacked the excitement of
a big bru-hah-hah between the Good Guy and the Bad guy that we come to
expect out of these things. I guess the villian and the good guy don't
*have* to fight hand to hand all the time for a movie to be
interesting, but if they don't, the villian needs to be extra sinister
or something. Like Hans Gruber in "Die Hard". Ron Silver's senator
got some witty lines, was appropriately power hungry, buuuuuut...that
was about it. Lacked something there.
Also, the gal who got to play Jean-Claude's semi-partner was wasted --
she's got cuteness and charisma, but alas, not all that much to do.
Effects were computer-generated "neat", and even a little bit original.
All in all, not a waste of two hours. I've seen better by JCVD, but
then again, I've seen worse.

| Saw this one on Friday night - wouldn't recommend anyone paying full price
to see it. I was actually pretty bored for most of the movie - not too much
new in the action sequences, and JCVD doing the splits gets stale after
awhile.

650.8 | It's worth the time! | LUDWIG::SSHEA | | Fri Oct 07 1994 14:57 | 38 |
| I saw this yesterday and did like it. I go to the movies to be
entertained, not to read anything into the movie, or try to get
something from it or critique subtle flaws that all movies have. So...
my outlook on movies aside, I thought it was entertaining, had great
special effects, good action, basic but solid story line, and I thought
the characters were all believable.
As far as a previous noters mention of JCVD's splits, it's just like
Arnolds "I'll be back"... it's something of a trade mark. I would agree
it would get old if he did it in every fight but I only recall him
using it twice and in both cases it "worked" for the moment.
Not to give anything away but I felt the scenes when he went "back" and
the interaction he had with people were pretty realistic as to what one
would actually go through should time travel be real.
I would say if you like JCVD anyway then the price of the ticket is
worth it. He delivers what he usually does so you won't be
disappointed. If you like action movies and maybe not JCVD you may want
to see it at a matinee for 1/2 price. Any action lovers should see it
whether at a matinee or waiting until video, you won't lose anything
by going from the large screen to TV. The special effects are neat but
they don't have to be big to enjoy them.
On the side... Is how you perceive someone outside of the movies really
all that important to how you see them in the movies? Earlier comments
on JCVD being arrogant or whatever in real life don't seem to carry
over into his movies. I feel this is true of alot of actors. I agree
that there are some actors who I have seen interviewed, or read things
about that influenced how I felt about them, but if they are good at
their "job" this doesn't follow them into their character and I will
enjoy the movie anyway. I could care less if the person is a complete
%#@hole in real life, if I like the way he or she portrays a character
I will go to see their movie. Just something I wanted to say, sorry I
rambled on.

Good point made about actors and their "jobs" vs. them in real life. I
pretty much feel the same about going to the movies as you do. I like
to be entertained.
Comment after form feed for those who haven't seen it yet
I really liked the ending where he realizes he has a son and that he
did save his wife. I thought the tears he shed added a nice touch.
All in all I liked this movie. I'm not sure if it will bring JCVD to
"Shwarzenagger" status, but I enjoyed it and will be in line to see
Streetfighter when that's released.

650.10 | Like acting, dislike actors... | DECWET::HAYNES | | Tue Oct 11 1994 19:01 | 8 |
| There are a number of actors I don't care for much in real life...or
when they were alive... but enjoy the contributions they have made...
Star Trek wouldn't be the same without Shatner, and Michael Landon and
Jerry Lewis did their fair share, though in person neither were and are
anyone I'd ever want to meet again...
My opinion...

I can't believe two of you liked the ending as that was probably
the biggest plot hole in the whole movie! Ie. first off the
house was demolished, but the last scene has it untouched.
But worse than that is that he has lost 10 years worth of
memories.
However ignoring the ending, and several other time-travel
style plot holes, the film overall was entertaining and
kept my attention, even though I'm not a fan of this actor.

| re .14
Just watched this again on video and noticed another
big hole. The Senator was "blobbed out " after he
killed Parker of Parker Datalinks but the Parker
Logo was back when VD returned to the present. This
is verified by the past senator showing up at the
house after geeting the phone call from future self (VD's
phony call) . The senator met himself at the Parker killing
so these events had to be after that.
But , other than that annoying paradox, the movie was
Funny, and good action flick, especially the fight scenes
on the rooftop.
