633.0. "All the Right Moves" by OOTOOL::CHELSEA (Mostly harmless.) Tue Sep 06 1994 14:26

The note on _Youngblood_ reminded me of this one, an early Tom Cruise
movie that avoids the traps that _Youngblood_ throws itself into.

Tom Cruise is a college senior and football player, Lea Thompson is his
girlfriend, and Craig T. Nelson is his coach. They all want out of
their dreary Pennsylvania mining town, and for the guys, football is
    their ticket.

This is pretty much a reversal of the high school/college sports
movies. The big game is actually near the middle of the film, and the
movie isn't about whether they win or lose the game, but how they deal
with the aftermath and its consequences.

This movie is about real people, and they solve their problems in real
ways, not movie ways. It was a refreshing change. Well worth renting.

    >> Tom Cruise is a college senior and football player

Minor nit, he's a High School Senior. The way out of the
small Pa town is via football scholarship to college.

I have no idea why I said college. He wants to _go_ to college, and
his coach wants to "graduate" to coaching college football.
