628.0. "The Ballad of Little Jo" by NETRIX::michaud (Raymond Burr) Fri Sep 02 1994 23:49
This one stars Suzy Amis who starts out as a east coast
society girl who after having a baby out of wedlock,
leaves her baby behind and heads west (this is set during
the wild west).
She soon finds out a single woman in the wild west is not
safe, so after almost being kidnapped/raped, she decides
to cut her hair and dress like a man.
She starts out shovelling manure, then tending sheep, and
finally buying a spread and flock of her own. After
many more years, one day while in town she saves a china man
from possible hanging and is rooked into taking the man in
as a cook/housekeeper. He soon figured out her secret and
they become lovers. It wasn't until even many more years
later that she dies and her secret is discovered ....
Supposedly based on a true story. It's quite a nice story,
and well acted. Thumbs up.

| I especially liked the chemistry and interplay between little Jo and
her/his arch rival and friend - the other sheep herder (drawing a blank
on his name)
Even though I found it hard at many points to believe this actress came
across as a young man, I found it very believable to believe this realy
happened.
Very good if you like based_on_true_stories type or gritty westerns.

| His name is "Frank" in the movie.... I was kinda hoping he would clue in. I
loved the look on all their faces when they made the "discovery"
