| Yes, it has already came and went here.
I havne't seen it, and I do like (generally) Lawrence Kasdan stuff, but
almost every review I read said: "Overly long, slow, and generally
boring. Nice job by Dennis Quaid, though."
So I figured I'd pass.
If I'm not mistaken, I think it's out on video already, at least via
the video tape club I belong to.

| Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE that I talked to that had seen this said
it was an OK movie, but that TOMBSTONE was muc, much better...
I liked Tombstone, but was planning to see this, didn't get a chance.
Anyone see Wyatt Earp and like it better than Tombstone?

| I just saw Wyatt Earp and agree with the previous two replies. If you
have already seen Tombstone, like I had, Wyatt Earp is very slow. You
already know more or less what is going to happen so you are just
waiting and any comparisons are usually not favourable.
Dennis Quaid is good but that is not enough. I think I liked Val
Kilmer better anyhow.
It would be interesting to know what someone thinks who hadn't seen
Tombstone first. I would guess it is not too bad even though a bit
long.

barry norman reckoned it was either too long (over 3 hours) or
too short (tried to deal with too much in too short a time) and
would've been better off as an 8hr tv mini-series
either way, it's thunder was stolen by tombstone despite good acting
all round...probably wait till the video or until beds are installed

| ... and of course if you haven't seen Tombstone there "Gun Fight at OK Coral"
staring Bert Langcaster as Wyatt Earp and Michael Duglas as Doc Holiday not to
mention the last episode of the Wyatt Earp TV series which ended with this
story.
Then for a totally different story having little to do with any of the four
stories mentioned above, there is a documentary that pops up on occasion on PBS
that tells the real story of the Gun Fight at OK Coral.
One big difference, the real fight lasted about 20 seconds. The Earps and Doc
Holiday just walked into the coral and started blasting. It was over before
most of the "bad guys" knew what had happened.

| Right, Michael's father Kirk :*)}
Also the guy who played Dr McCoy on Star Trek was one of the Earp's in that
movie. I believe he played Morgan Earp.
Another thing the movies usually get wrong was that Virgil Earp was the older
brother that accomplished the most and usually ran the town. Wyatt and Morgan
were more or less along for the ride. It's always been my guess that the reason
Wyatt usually gets the credit for being the head of the clan is that Virgil is
not a heroic enough sounding name.
"Virgil Earp, Virgil Earp, brave courageous and bold ..."
"That won't work, let's use Wyatt's name instead".

| Actually, "Sunset" had a pretty good O.K. Corral scene, though it was
only a brief recollection while they were filming a re-enactment,
more or less.

| Back in 1968, James Garner played a more serious Earp in "Hour of the
Gun" with Jason Robards Jr. as Holiday. Well worth checking out.
And I'm surprised no one has mentioned "My Darling Clementine" (1946),
which cast Henry Fonda (Bridget's grandpa, for you young'uns) as Wyatt
and Victor Mature as Doc. And back in 1932 "Law and Order" starred
Walter Huston (who begat John, who begat Angelica) as some
approximation of the Wyatt Earp character, although I'm not sure
whether he was given a fictitious name. "Law and Order" was remade (at
least, the title was reused) in the 1950's with Ronald Reagan (you
remember, Patty's dad). Joel McCrea played Wyatt in "Wichita" in 1955.
And no doubt there are dozens more I've missed.

| One more I'm ashamed I forgot (men have been shot for less): Randolph
Scott was Wyatt in 1939's "Frontier Marshal" with Cesar Romero as Doc.
This was based on Stuart Lake's "Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal", which
is responsible for most (if not all) of the Earp myths.

| I don't feel guilty about this one, since it's not a standard search function
of the databases: here's all the "Wyatt Earp" characters in there. There's no
character names yet for Wichita or the 1953 Law and Order, so those aren't here;
also, the 1932 L&O Walter Huston character was "Frame Johnson," so they must
have gone the fiction route. I suspect Randolph Dreyfuss's character was
loosely based, at best...

| I finally found 3 hours for this one and can say ....
> barry norman reckoned it was either too long (over 3 hours) or
> too short (tried to deal with too much in too short a time) ....
"Too long" is the correct answer. I felt "Tombstone" covered
much more material (and also felt more in depth) than this
slow moving boring version.
> .... and would've been better off as an 8hr tv mini-series ....
Funny you (or barry) said this, while watching it I said to
myself, this has the feel of a made for TV [so called] movie",
and I can't stand 'em (or the even more drawn out mini-series
versions of them).
> .... either way, it's thunder was stolen by tombstone despite good acting
> all round...
"Good acting all round"??? This is where your critic got it wrong.
This is probably the worse (or 2nd worse, I forget his other bad
acting job) acting job Costner has ever done. The supporting cast
wasn't great either, but did a hell of a better job than Costner.
I feel I was robbed of 3 hours of my life. My only hope is that
by writing this I can save someone else from also being robbed.....

| i rented this over the weekend and have to agree that it was much too
long and boring. tombstone was by far the better of the two. i also
liked val kilmer better than dennis quaid.
kevin costner played the same type of boring and misunderstood role
that he usually plays.
